Job Summary:
The Flock Manager is responsible for assisting in the overall success of the daily pullet barn operations for Trillium Farms. This position works directly with the Pullet Manager, Farm Compliance, Maintenance Manager, Safety Manager, and Human Resources.
Essential Job Functions:
•Responsible for managing one pullet farm consisting of 5 flocks/barns of pullets and a bio room facility.
•Responsible for one maintenance technician assigned to them by the Pullet Manager to assist and perform all the mechanical repairs in their site
•FM will walk their barns daily checking for all items listed on compliance paperwork and record all data and issues.
•FM responsible for all aspects of FLAW (food, lights, air, water) to the flocks
•Responsible for setting the feed schedules in the control system and make sure birds have feed at all times. Will raise/lower the guillotines to correct heights when needed (croton systems only).
•Will control the light, replace burnt/broken lights, control dimmer system and adjust it according to the guidelines.
•Will control the ventilation of the house by making the correct settings in the control system to allow proper ventilation and temperature changes for the ages of flocks. Will have to adjust back up thermostats in the houses with the changes of temperatures to ensure protection of flocks in power outages.
•Will ensure that the flocks have water at all times and adjust pressure on lines as needed for ages of the flocks. Will also raise water lines as chicks grow to ensure they are set at correct heights for the chicks.
•FM is responsible for pulling/verifying the process of the daily mortality in their flocks and recording data on the clipboard in the front of each house as well as entering the mortality number into the computer in the barn. (Croton only for entering mortality number into computer in barn).
•FM is responsible for managing the pest control in their flocks. If treatments are needed, they must be reported to the PM.
•FM responsible for pulling the blood samples for their flocks when requested to by the compliance department.
•Participate in bi-weekly barn walks to all flocks in the facilities.
•Monitor/administer all the spray vaccinations needed for each of their flocks to ensure they are being handled and administered properly.
•Work very closely with any crews that come into your flocks to perform work (pullet crew, vaccine crews, load-out crews). Monitor their performances and report any issues in performance, animal welfare or animal handling to PM.
•Perform crew checks after 7 week and 12-week vaccinations occur in your flocks. 6-8 days after a crew performs the 7-week vaccination, you must complete pox checks, in the wings, of around 100 birds to verify vaccination. During the 12-week vaccine, you must complete tongue checks for dye to make sure the crew members are administering the vaccine properly.
•FM's will be on a rotation schedule to be on call to cover alarms/emergencies amongst FMs and PM. There is a night employee on site every night to cover barn alarms. The alarms will call the night alarm phone first. Then should the night employee have issues or emergencies the on-call FM will be the one whom will be contacted for assistance.
•Daily reports and daily feed orders to be a shared task of the group of Flock Managers.
•Goshen only- FM and maintenance will split the task of running manure scrapers in the houses daily and completing the moving tape for flies 3x/week.
•Participate in company leadership trainings.
•Participate/help complete monthly and weekly safety trainings and monthly safety audits.
•Assist in inventorying supplies and parts needed at barns/biorooms.
Qualifications and Skills:
•Must have experience working with the poultry.
•Good Communication (Written / Verbal) skills, organized, goal oriented, accountable. Good Leadership skills. Must be competent in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
•Bilingual in English Spanish preferred
•Agile, able to lift 50lbs. Must be able to perform all job duties of processing supervisors. Also must be able to work in various climate conditions, including extreme cold.
•Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
