POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of the Retention Center is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing retention initiatives to ensure student success. This position also leads a team of retention specialists to provide students with academic support services through graduation.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership SupportAssist the Executive Director in evaluating current retention activities and recommend appropriate strategies and resources to increase student retention and graduation rates.Assist the Executive Director with completing a comprehensive retention plan that aligns resources to achieve retention goals.Assist the Executive Director in developing and implementing a data-driven assessment plan to regularly evaluate the effectiveness of retention activities and recommend changes as necessary.In collaboration with the Executive Director of OSSRS and the Institutional Assessment and Evaluation (IAE) team, track and analyze retention and attrition data to identify trends and potential solutions. Notify Success Coaches, academic advisors, and faculty of student issues relating to performance, probation, and potential disqualifications.In collaboration with IAE and the Center for Information Technology (CIT), maintain a retention dashboard highlighting persistence, retention, and graduation rates.Update and maintain the Retention Services Operations Manual.Retention Services
Supervise staff and oversee the management of the Retention Center.Coordinate and oversee work with students on academic warning, suspension, and probation academic dismissal, including, but not limited to, responding to phone calls, walk-ins, and emails concerning such issues; working with students to understand policy, procedure, and process; following up and following through with students' academic contracts, goals, and requirements, etc.Coordinate and oversee academic advising to returning students in the retention cohort, individually or in groups, about College policies, programs of study, and degree options. Provide students with information about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions.Support recruitment and retention functions by communicating with potential students and referring students to available student support services, such as personal and career counseling, study skills, tutoring, financial aid, etc.Manage a learning support lab for students needing assistance with challenging courses and access to online and in-person tutoring with faculty and instructional assistants.Organize retention-related activities for at-risk students as needed (e.g., study skills, time management, note-taking, etc.).Collaborate with faculty and staff to resolve student issues regarding retention.Provide case conferences with staff, guidance for at-risk students to develop and implement an Academic Plan for student success, and regular follow-up.Collaborate with Financial Aid and the Student Success Coaching team regarding students' Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) process.Remain current with programs nationwide to identify best policies, practices, and procedures. Make recommendations based on best practices identified through research.Establish contact with students who want to appeal their probation/dismissal status.Make referrals to campus student support services when needed.Performs other secondary duties as assigned.Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Master's preferred.At least five years of experience in retention and/or academic advising, with supervisory experience.Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and assessment methods.Knowledge of student learning and program outcomes evaluation.Advanced knowledge of Jenzabar admission, registration, and advising modules, including J1 Web advising.Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Access.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures.
