Job Description SummaryWest Virginia Northern is seeking applicants for a full-time, Director of Academic Resource Center.
This position is an on-campus position based in Wheeling, West Virginia with duties on all three campuses (Wheeling, New Martinsville, and Weirton).
Oversees all academic support services provided to students, including tutoring, accessibility services, library services, and testing.
Leadership, oversight, and supervision for the academic resource areas of tutoring center, library, and accessibility services. Primary focus is to support and increase student success, retention, and graduation rates. Work is accomplished without considerable direction, exercising judgment to obtain results.

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to
Supervise Academic Resource Center and Libraries
Oversee the coordination of operations for the Tutoring Center, Library services, and Accessibility services.
Provide direct and/or indirect supervision of full and part-time employees in the areas of tutoring, library, and accessibility services; review and approve tutor evaluations; supervise and recommend hiring and termination of employees as needed; resolve conflict.
Monitor levels of service to support student success and provide flexible service models as needs and resources change.
Ensure compliance with state and federal mandates governing service provisions.
Monitor and supervise staff in Academic Resource Centers and Library on all three campuses.
Manage the Academic Recovery Program.
Ensure Library Services are accessible and available to all students.
Increase Student Retention
Develop, coordinate and administer college and campus-wide retention initiatives, to include:
Develop retention strategic and action plans;
Coordinate an Early Warning System;
Coordinate a faculty/staff student mentoring program;
Coordinate a peer mentoring program;
Coordinate and teach First Year Seminar course and assign other facilitators;
Sign departmental-specific retention activities;
Develop and coordinate projects designed to increase graduation rates;
Coordinate student workshops in such areas as study skills, conflict management, technology assistance, registration, and more.
Manage Accessibility Services for Academic Resource Center and Library
Support instruction by providing training to faculty and tutors in teaching strategies.
Collect data and assess Student Learning programs and services, researching alternative methods, compiling data, preparing and presenting reports, and making recommendations for improvements to services.
Monitor budget for Academic Resource Centers and Libraries.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and RequirementsEducation:
Master's Degree in Higher Education, Education, Library Science or Information Science, Adult Education, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field of study.
Master's in Library Science required within three years.
Experience:
3 years + Progressively responsible experience directly related to the operation of libraries and/or academic support centers or tutoring services, including the supervision of student workers and professional staff, required.
3 years + Experience in student support, student retention, and disabilities services for students in a higher education setting, required.
3 years + Research, writing, and reporting experience with Grant Writing experience valued, preferred.
3 years + Supervisory Experience, required.
Minimum 6 months Community College experience, preferred.
1 year + Remote learning support for students, instructors, and tutors, preferred.
