We are currently recruiting for a full-time Staff Accountant to join our finance team in Stratford, CT
POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of monthly financial analysis reports, developing, and maintaining department budgets and generating cost reports in collaboration with the Finance & Grant Director. The Staff Accountant will also collect pertinent information for third party audits, oversee financial reporting and will be the first point of contact for accounting issues in addition to managing the grant reporting process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments. Maintains and balances an automated consolidation system by inputting data, scheduling required jobs, verifying data. Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information. Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts Provide detailed analyses and explanations of all transactions Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements. Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data. Support accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry. Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Four years accounting experience including the areas of general accounting, fixed assets, financial reporting, and grant reporting.
EXPERIENCE:
Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills; Strong reporting skills, deadline-oriented; Time management skills and attention to detail; Thorough understanding of all accounting functional areas; Strong math skills; Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing programs.
