volunteer assignment

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented wig cleaner and styler to join our volunteer team. In this role, you will be responsible for cleaning, styling, and maintaining various types of wigs to ensure they meet our clients' expectations and quality standards. Your expertise in wig care, attention to detail, and creativity will play a crucial role in enhancing the appearance and longevity of our wigs. This position contributes to the Queer Youth Services success by working with Q Center staff to organize, clean, and style wigs. These wigs go directly into our Trans Fashion Treasury that queer and trans youth have access to.

key responsibilitiesClean and sanitize wigs using appropriate cleaning agents and methods.Inspect wigs for damage, wear, or styling needs.Willingness to teach wig basics.Style wigs according to client preferences, including cutting, curling, straightening, and coloring as required.Ensure all wigs are client ready, including being styled and cleaned.Maintain accurate records of wig cleaning and styling processes.Collaborate with Q staff to ensure timely delivery and quality service.qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Proven experience as a wig cleaner or similar role in the beauty or theatrical industry.Strong knowledge of different wig types, materials, and construction.Proficiency in wig cleaning, styling, and maintenance techniques.Ability to use various styling tools and equipment effectively.Lived experience working with and for LGBTQ+ people.Knowledge and understanding of queer identities. \Knowledge and understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.Willingness to learn about Queer Youth Services.Must be 18 years of age or older.Requires background checks.
