JOB OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Manager of Litigation is responsible for managing and coordinating activities related to litigation under the direct supervision of the Litigation and Claims Manager. The Assistant Manager will investigate facts and prepare files and documents to assist attorneys with lawsuits associated with Georgia Ports Authority activities. The Assistant Manager will have the primary role of supporting legal counsel in the preparation of depositions by coordinating schedules for employees and attorneys, the drafting of interrogatories for legal review, and managing the production of documents and records associated with cases in the designated database.

JOB DUTIES:
Oversee all aspects of litigation case management, including fact investigation, file organization, discovery, and trial preparation for all Georgia Ports Authority locations.Facilitate the collection of evidence related to accident investigations as needed.Investigate claims tied to lawsuits and manage evidence collection accordingly.Organize and maintain case files in the designated company database, adhering to deadlines.Serve as a liaison between case attorneys and support staff to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently.Coordinate and draft responses to Interrogatories, Document Production requests, and other legal inquiries as directed by counsel.Schedule deposition preparations and depositions in collaboration with attorneys, employees, supervisors, and managers.Attend mediations and assist in negotiations and settlements, exercising independent judgment to settle claims within authorized limits.Arrange on-site inspections when necessary.Collaborate with appointed attorneys, State's Attorneys General, and insurance carriers as applicable.Effectively engage with internal teams (e.g., Port Police, Maintenance, Crane Operations, Human Resources, and others) as required.Proactively identify opportunities for improving systems and procedures, minimizing risks, and implementing enhancements when appropriate.Supervise and mentor a Litigation Specialist in their duties to support all facets of litigation management.Participate in a 24-hour on-call duty rotation.Temporarily step in as backup for the Manager of Litigation and Claims during vacations, absences, or vacancies.

Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesExcellent oral, written, and listening skills required. HighAbility to handle confidential information. HighMust have analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail. HighAbility to critique and improve business practices and procedures. MediumAbility to communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers and the public required. HighExtensive knowledge of legal issues related to organizational liability.
