We are looking for hard working, team oriented, dedicated people with flexible schedules to serve as Elections Assistants. We need energetic, responsible, reliable people to support the administration of the upcoming November General Election.

There are multiple opportunities, various time frames, and various work locations. Please read the job descriptions carefully, fully answer all application questions and select your first and second choice assignment.

BASIC FUNCTION OF AN ELECTION ASSISTANT

Accurately perform repetitive, high-volume tasks pertaining to election processes. Tasks may include securely collecting, transporting, preparing, extracting, adjudicating, verifying, and/or scanning ballots. Perform functions that help ensure all eligible voter ballots are processed.

Job Duties

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIESFollows applicable federal, state and local election laws and county election division policies and procedures.Secures ballots in appropriate areas.Assesses data quickly and accurately.Maintains appropriate and verifiable paperwork.Enters ballot accountability data.Maintains a clean and efficient work environment.Assists in training of new election assistants when necessary.Other duties as assigned.Ballot Drop Box Closer100+ POSITIONS AVAILABLEBallot Drop Box Closers work in teams of two to four and greet and assist voters in depositing their ballots in the drop boxes on Election Day. Closers should prepare for inclement weather and be physically able to move quickly as well as stand for long periods of time at a ballot drop box.

Ballot Drop Box Closer Essential Duties

Greets and assists voters at the drop boxes.Collects and secures ballots for transport to the Processing Center (if assigned).Helps ease election-related traffic congestion near ballot drop box.Assists in closing procedure of ballot drop box promptly at 8:00 pm Election night.Identifies and separates voted ballot envelopes from other materials (if assigned).Operates a county-issued smart phone to document ballot drop box security measures.Drives personal vehicle to and from ballot drop box.

Work Location:Assigned to any 1 of 35 ballot drop boxes located throughout Snohomish County.Required Dates:Saturday, November 2nd: mandatory paid two-hour training from 8:00am - 10:00am, 10:30am - 12:30pm, 1:00pm - 3:00pm or 3:30pm - 5:30pm, as assigned. Training location is Snohomish County Campus, 3000 Rockefeller Avenue, Everett, WA 98201Tuesday November 5th - Election Day: 1:00pm to 9:00pm (hours are approximate, start times and end times will vary depending on assigned role and drop box location).

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust be 18 years of age, a high school graduate or equivalent and be available during specific election periods. Must be flexible to work varied shifts from 2 - 12 hours dependent on ballot volume. Weekend, holiday and extended work hours are possible. Must pass a criminal background check.

SUPERVISIONElection and Voter Registration Assistants receive supervision from the Ballot Processing Center Specialist, Inbound Ballot Specialist, Voter Registration Lead, Elections and Voter Registration Supervisor, and the Elections and Voter Registration Manager dependent on the specific assignment. The employee is responsible for the quantity, quality and accuracy of the work which is reviewed to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and election laws.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS

Office and/or warehouse environment with some machine noise possible. Workers will be sitting or standing for extended periods of time, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.

Ballot drop box employees will be working outside in possible inclement weather during day and evening hours. Workers will be standing for extended periods of time, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting and carrying up to 55 pounds with a partner repeatedly.
