Location:Service Center Route & Trip Coordinator Kaufman ISD Job Title: Route & Trip Coordinator Exempti on Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Transportati on & Maintenance Date Revised: August 2024 Dept./School: Service Center Pay Grade: 187 Days Primary Purpose: Responsible for effi cient planning, scheduling and coordinati on of all school bus routes and fi eld trips. This role ensures that all transportati on operati ons are conducted in compliance with state regulati ons, safety standards and district policies. The coordinator plays a key role in eff ecti ve communicati on between drivers, schools, and parents, while also managing route data and resolving transportati on issues. Qualifications: Educati on/Certi fi cati on: High school diploma or equivalent Trade school or mechanical school completi on (preferred) Previous experience in school transportati on or logisti cs coordinati on Class B CDL with School Bus & Passenger Endorsement Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to interpret technical informati on, diagnose and resolve issues Knowledge of Texas school bus specifi cati ons and relevant statutes Profi ciency in computer skills including Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel Familiarity with ServiceFinder and Fuelmaster soft ware (preferred) Excellent organizati onal, communicati on, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of state and federal transportati on regulati on Ability to work well under pressure Experience: Three years experience as bus driver Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Route Planning and Scheduling: Develop and optimize daily school bus routes to ensure timely and safe transportation for students utilizing the district resources efficiently. Route and track special population routes Approve and assign all district field trips Work with driving personnel to optimize bus stops 2. Communication and Coordination: Serves as the primary point of contact for parents and bus drivers regarding route and schedule inquiries. Communicate route changes, delays and cancellations to all stakeholders in a timely manner. Communicate with special population diagnosticians for routing of special populations. Communicate with shop staff for usage of buses and auxiliary fleet Track bus driver points for field trip bids Post and assign trips to bus drivers according to policy Respond to complaints and concerns about transportation services and address issues when appropriate. Redirect calls to Assistant Director when appropriate. 3. Data Management and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of routes, schedules and student transportation data. Utilize transportation software to manage and analyze route efficiency and make data driven decisions. Prepare and submit reports on transportation performance, route mileage, on-time performance and student counts. Track mileage for trips taken Track special populations mileage and SHARS reports 4. Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all transportation operations comply with federal, state and local regulations, as well as district policy. Monitor and report any safety concerns or violations, and work with the Assistant Director to address them. Supervisory Responsibilities: Bus Drivers Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used : Computer systems, hand tools, power tools, air tools, cordless tools, specialty equipment like brake lathe, ti re balancer, welder, and A/C recovery machines. Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatti ng, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisti ng Moti on: Frequent walking, bending, movement around buses, cars, and transportati on vehicles Lift ing: May require regular heavy lift ing (45 pounds or more) and positi oning of students with physical disabiliti es, control behavior through physical restraint, assist nonambulatory students, and lift and move adapti ve equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours Environment: Exposure to biological hazards; may require districtwide travel Mental Demands: Maintain emoti onal control under stress This position requires availability for extended hours and involves diverse interactions within the district community.
