General Description:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction, plan, organize, administer, develop and direct the day-to-day operations, programs, and activities including curriculum, catalog, schedule, enrollment management, distance education, and other special assignments of area. The Dean of Instruction provides leadership for program development and works directly with assigned faculty leads and disciplines to plan for activities within area of responsibility. This position is responsible for coordinating all related activities for the college and ensuring that the programs demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse student population.Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

Perform strategic enrollment management as it relates to resource allocation, scheduling, and productivityPromote shared governance through active participation in college and district committeesWork collaboratively with faculty and administrators to plan, organize, develop, and evaluate the programs, activities, and curriculum of assigned programs, and services that meet accreditation/industry standardsPromote, communicate, and facilitate partnerships with private and public businesses, industries and community or public agencies, as appropriateParticipate in community, state and national organizations and meetings related to area or special assignmentsMaintain current knowledge of new developments and innovations in community colleges and higher education in general and recommend changes to area programs to meet student and community needsAs directed, prepare reports on instructional and other programs to comply with federal and state mandatesPrepare a variety of reports and correspondence appropriate to assignmentDevelop the area budget and manage financial resources consistent with District policy and sound financial management principlesResolve student, faculty, and staff conflicts and issues within the areaEvaluate faculty, administrators (if applicable), and classified staff in accordance with proper management practices and implement articles of collective bargaining agreementsAccurately interpret and apply laws, regulations, district procedures, and collective bargaining contracts provisionsEncourage cultural and ethnic diversity in staffing, curriculum, programs and servicesPerform other related duties as assignedKnowledge of:

Required:

Master's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in any discipline

ORFor career technical areas, a terminal degree and an appropriate license/certification, if applicable, in additional to the Master's degree as listed above

ANDOne year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment

ANDSuccessful community college teaching or other related work experience

ANDA minimum of one year of managerial experience demonstrating leadership with increasing responsibility

ANDSensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college studentsLicense or Certificate:

Valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire dateDesired:

Health Benefits

1. Spouse of active employee that does not have any other employer coverage, and is on Medicare only, are covered by our insurance as primary and Medicare secondary.

2. If NO children are involved and spouse of active employee has other employer coverage - spouse coverage is primary for spouse, employee coverage is primary for employee - then secondaries.

3. If children ARE involved and spouse of active employee has other employer coverage - the person with the first birthday (employee or spouse) is the primary coverage and other is secondary.

Cost is $12.00/month for 10 months/year. We do not pay anything during June and July. This $12.00 covers the following as long as the members use Plan providers:

1. Medical (Anthem Blue Cross): $100 deductible for each family member or $300 deductible per family paid by employee each calendar year. 100% coverage after deductible is paid (except for emergency room visits which cost $100 unless the person is admitted to the hospital).

2. Dental (Delta Dental):

a. Plan pays 70% first year plan is used

b. 80% paid second year

c. 90% paid third yeard. 100% paid fourth yeare. 100% will be paid each year thereafter unless member does not visit the dentist each year for cleanings/check-ups.f. 50% co-payment for Orthodontic with $1,500 lifetime maximum for each enrollee.

3. Vision (VSP): $5.00 co-pay for exam every calendar year. Plan pays $130 for frames, anything over $130 is paid by the member. Single vision, lined bifocal and lined trifocal lenses are covered in full.

4. Prescription (Navitus): Pharmacy cost is $3.00 for up to 30 day supply generic and $15.00 co-payment for brand name. Costco 30 day supply generic and by mail for up to 90 day supply generic is $0.00. If brand name drug is chosen when a generic is available, member will pay the difference in cost between the brand name and generic drug plus generic co-payment.

5. $50,000 life insurance policy on employee.

6. Short-term and long-term disability

Retirement

1. Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), for 2015-16:Classic members - 7% and the college pays 11.847%.New members - 6% and the college pays 11.847%.

2. State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), for 2015-16:Members prior to 1/1/13 contribute 9.20% each paycheck and the college 10.73%Members after 1/1/13 contribute 8.56% each paycheck and the college 10.73%

3. If PERS, the college and employee both pay into social security and Medicare.If STRS, the college and employee do NOT pay into social security but both DO pay into Medicare.

Holidays, Vacation, Sick Leave1. Holidays - 11 paid plus 5 days during Christmas.

2. Vacation - 2 days per month worked - fiscal year.

3. Sick - 1 day per month worked with maximum of 12 days per year - fiscal year.
