All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen. And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
Job Description:
The Unified Government Transit Department operates local fixed route service along major travel corridors, Microtransit within a dedicated service zone, complementary Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit service for persons with disabilities, as well as Senior Transportation and Meals on Wheels for senior citizens throughout Wyandotte County. In addition to these services, Unified Government Transportation contracts annually with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority to provide additional fixed route bus service and complementary ADA paratransit service outside our normal service parameters.
The Dispatcher position is responsible for scheduling rides on behalf of customers, including setting up booking profiles on behalf of customers, providing information to Transit Operators via radio communication, providing guidance on route information, reviewing the on-time performance of drivers, communicating driver-related issues and/or accidents to Lead Operators, and providing informational resources to customers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assign Transit Operators to designated pickup locations.Monitor driver progress and ensure on-time performance of trips.Communicate with customers regarding estimated pickup and drop-off times.Troubleshoot and resolve logistical issues that may arise.Reserve rides on behalf of customers.Set up booking profiles on behalf of customers.Train and mentor junior dispatchers and support staff as needed.Perform radio communications to Transit Operators.Call customers to follow up on trip information.Other Dispatcher related duties.Required Skillsets:
Must possess exceptional customer service skills.Must have good written and verbal communication skills.Must have good computer and clerical skills. Dispatchers will utilize the Microsoft suite of programs as well as task-specific software.Must be able to work closely with other individuals and departments. The dispatcher will share tasks with coworkers and perform inter-departmental tasks.Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.Must be able to solve problems and provide a viable solution.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties. Valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License. Ability to learn the tasks-specific software used for booking rides. Must have experience with Microsoft applications. Must be able to perform other transit-related duties as assigned.
Salary Range:
$21.97/hr.
