Looking for a cause-driven leader to serve as the Wellness Director at the Shelby County YMCA in Shelbyville, IN

Job Description

To develop and maintain the operation of all corporate wellness, physical education, fitness, strength training, and wellness program services identified to meet the needs of the membership and community.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, physical education, recreation, or related field.

- Prefer 2 years previous YMCA experience in management OR 2 years proven successful experience in program development and supervision

- CPR/FIRST AID/AED certification must be kept current

- Must possess one of the following certifications for Personal Training and/or Group Exercise: ACSM, AFAA, NASM, ACE or NCSF

- Good interpersonal relations and customer service skills

- Must be self-motivated towards excellence and be able to work as part of a team

- Strong organizational and leadership skills

- Must have strong computer skills

- Must be able to do presentations

Essential Functions

- Know and follow the YMCA mission statement. “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.”

- Must be able to recruit and direct volunteers and employees.

- Must be knowledgeable in wellness, fitness, weight training, and maintenance of equipment.

- Know and model the four Core Values of the YMCA: Caring, Responsibility, Respect, Honesty.

- Extend courtesy and respect to all members and guest of the YMCA.

- To complete YMCA orientation within 90 days of employment.

- Maintain a positive attitude about the YMCA both on and off-premises.

- To assist with hiring, supervision, development, evaluate and recognize wellness center staff and strength training staff.

- Develop, plan, promote, fitness programs, the YMCA corporate wellness program, membership retention programs, adult special events, and assist with fitness testing.

- Assist with required staff training.

- Assist with preparing, administering, and monitoring the Wellness and fitness Department annual budget.

- Serve as a staff resource person to committees of the YMCA Board of Directors as related to the areas of responsibility.

- Perform a minimum of 5 instructing hours per week (Personal training and/or Group Ex. Classes.

- Assist in brochure development, including class write-ups, class costs, and scheduling of classes.

- Develop and maintain Y360 content and assist in keeping website current with YMCA offerings.

- Participate in the YMCA Annual Campaign, and other grant and fundraising campaigns as needed.

- Assist in long-range planning process and execution of objectives developed in that process.

- Accept YMCA training opportunities as deemed appropriate by supervisor.

- Participate in community activities that develop a high profile for yourself and the YMCA.

- Accept additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate in order to help the YMCA accomplish its mission.

- Assist with Maintenance of fitness Equipment

- Develop and maintain successful wellness programming.

- Direct Supervisor over: Wellness Advisors, Personal Trainers and Group Exercise staff.

Required Certifications
