Position Summary

Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides services designed to improve academic, career, and personal skills to prepare first-generation (neither parent has a four-year degree) and low-income high school students to be successful in high school and college. The Summer Instructor will be responsible for assisting students in enhancing their skills in all subject areas that will prepare 9th -12th-grade students for their current academic classes, and the SAT/ACT exams.

Reporting and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the Director, TRIO Upward Bound.

Essential Responsibilities• Provide academic and support services to TRIO Upward Bound participants• Support application and enrollment processes• Monitor student progress and provide individualized coaching, interventions, or referrals as appropriate.• Support students with coursework and development of study and testing taking skills.• Assist in the completion of FAFSA and scholarship opportunities• Lead post-secondary education preparation activities for program participants• Disseminate college and program informational materials to all Upward Bound participants.• Coordinate and supervise student participation in college fairs/open houses, information sessions, campus visits, field trips, and workshops.• Assist in making direct referrals to other TRIO and other student support programs. Co-lead Upward Bound summer programming.• Co-lead summer programming on campus and off-campus for residential activities.• Coordinate enrichment activities, physical activities, field trips, and cultural events.• Communicate program activities with Upward Bound participants, Upward Bound parents/guardians, and Upward Bound staff.• Assist in program reporting utilizing. Maintain timely and accurate records of student activities.• Ensure physical and electronic student files are up to date.• Develop relationships with Upward Bound participants, as well as their family and supporters, to provide them with the highest level of wraparound support.• Develop and enhance program communications and learning activities to assist student development.• Ongoing evaluation of program goals and students' performance outcomes to identify student and program needs, as well as provide recommendations on innovative changes based on research and promising practices. Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity.• Work with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences to provide resources that will support their navigation through higher education and helping to ensure they know that they matter.• Ability to maintain accurate student records and documentation needed for grant reporting.

Minimum Qualifications• Bachelor's degree required• Five years' experience in designing and managing educational programs for underserved populations.• Three years in a supervisory or lead (leading projects, processes, and staff) capacity• Experience in overcoming academic and economic obstacles to success and previous TRIO Upward Bound working experience.• Valid Illinois Driver's License required.• Knowledge of recruitment strategies for postsecondary institutions and alternative education programs.

Anticipated Work Hours and Days

37.5 hours. 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Monday - Friday). Some weekends.

Salary$40,952 - $61,427
