Description
This is a full-time 30-hour position with benefits, under the direction of the Chief Building Official.Examples of Duties
Reviews residential construction plans, blueprints, and other project documentation (paper and electronic formats) in order to ensure compliance with provisions in adopted residential building code and standards.Issues plan approvals, adjudication orders or correction letters for non-conformance work items, stop work orders, and certificates of occupancy as required by codeReview flood plain regulations and permit submittalsAssists design professionals/homeowners/contractors with plan submittals and correcting problemsConsults inspectors on problems relating to inspectionsCalculates permit fees for construction projectsExamines, prepares, and maintains various work-related documents (e.g., maintains daily plan examination log, prepares correspondence, enters plan review results into database)Documents personnel activity/maintains filesSets up plan review files; prepares reports (e.g., monthly and yearly plan review report)Assists in writing annual state reportsAttends meetings (e.g., staff, pre-construction, council, appeal hearings at State of Ohio Board of Building Standards, and meetings of the Chief Building Official in his absence)Answers inquiries regarding flood plain requirements (e.g., flood way, flood way fringe, panel numbers); refers citizen/property owner questions to Code Compliance Officer as neededPerforms on-site investigations with staff when neededOperates variety of field equipment (e.g., tape measure, light meter, sound meter) while performing on-site investigationsPerforms inspections/investigations of residential buildings in place of building division staff as neededOperates personal computer to input field inspection dataRemains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to dutiesParticipates in staff development activities and services review procedures; attends staff meetings and supervisory conferencesMaintains required licenses and/or certificatesMeets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functionsDemonstrates regular and predictable attendance; adhere to work hours set by the administrationIf in possession of appropriate certifications, may be required to do limited inspections, if neededPerforms other related duties as assignedTypical Qualifications
