Job SummaryResponsible for handling administrative and clerical tasks in the clinics included but not limited to greeting patients, scheduling appointments and/or EMG tests, answering assigned Physician's patient calls, communicating with outside sources and other departments.Essential Functions• Responsible for customer service, accurate data entry in patients' charts.• Greets patients and visitors politely, prompt, helpful manner.• Able to make decisions for the well-being of our patients and company.• Provides support services to patients including answering questions regarding patient appointments, tests and scheduled appointments for lab work, MRI's, and CT scans, etc.• Reviews and updates current information on Physician's schedules ensuring that patients arescheduled properly and appointments are confirmed.• Coordinates Physician appointments and messages, relays messages to Medical Assistants and Physicians; communicates with other departments, as necessary.• Maintains clean, orderly clinic office area including beverage area and Physician/patient materials.• Other duties as assigned.Skill and Abilities• Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone and to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, staff members and other customers.• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.• Navigate and comprehension of computer software systems in office setting, prefer 50wpm.• Able to use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.Physical and Mental Demands• Able to sit and work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.• Work may require hand dexterity for use of telephone, keyboard, fax machines, copy machines.• Able to handle difficult situations related to patients being in pain or feeling impatient to see a doctor in an educated and professional manner.• Work requires the ability to walk, sit stand, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch.• Able to speak clearly so patients can understand.• Able to lift 30 lbs. In some cases, with the help of more team members, may need to help lift a patient in need.Patient Care Specialist (Medical Secretary) Revised February 2013Working Conditions• Able to work in an environment exposed to communicable diseases or infections while interacting with patients.• Needs to be able to work as part of a team.• Able to work in competitive and fast paced clinics.• Standing, sitting for up to 8 or more hours/day while doing computer input and responding to phone questions. Work requiring moderate speed and high degree of accuracy.• Reliable transportation to go to different SBO locations.Standard QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience: Minimum of two years office experience, preferably in a clinical setting.Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with medical software/office equipment desirable.• Computer and typing skills with a high degree of accuracy.• Experience with medical terminology is preferred.This description is intended to provide guidelines for meeting job requirements.
