Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Google platform.Excellent driving record and a valid class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements required.Ability to plan, communicate with the public, other district personnel and supervise others using patience, tact, and courtesy is required.Sound judgment and the ability to withstand the demands of early morning hours.Experience in vehicle routing and scheduling.Operation of a two-way radio and standard office machines.Managerial experience is preferred.Knowledge of school transportation laws and procedures is preferred.Ability to multitask.REPORTING RESPONSIBILITY:The Transportation Dispatcher reports directly to the Transportation Supervisor.JOB GOAL:The Transportation Dispatcher oversees and manages the bus drivers and bus aides in the operation of the school transportation program and to assist the Transportation Supervisor in ensuring the safe and efficient transport of pupils to and from school and to curricular and extracurricular activities. The Dispatcher schedules and staffs district school vehicles for pupil transportation needs. The Dispatcher is first on call to find substitutes. The Dispatcher will assist with assigning stops and routing school vehicles using good judgment at all times.EVALUATION:The Transportation Dispatcher is evaluated by the Transportation Supervisor.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:l . Assigns all Board of Education district school vehicle drivers. Oversees contracted routes and drivers. This includes but is not limited to a) scheduling substitute drivers, and b) driving and/or aiding in an emergency or when substitutes are not available.
Maintains accurate daily operation sheets and maintains Transportation Department emails daily.Alters schedules for early dismissals, road construction, or an event that affects schedules.Assists the Transportation Coordinator with a) coordinating district school vehicle repair, maintenance and MVC inspections with mechanics, and b) responsible for maintaining required certifications for drivers, including license renewal, criminal history checks and mandated driver physicals.5 Directs mechanics, tow truck operator or seek and direct other assistance for disabled district school vehicles. Provide for the continuation of the trip or route to minimize the impact the disabled vehicle may cause.
Communicates immediately with the Supervisor in the event of an accident, incident or serious problem. In the case of an accident, follow the established accident procedure which includes notifying the appropriate administrators and the school as soon as possible.Dispatches all district trips by: a) establishing and maintaining efficient trip selection procedures while following union seniority guidelines, b) receiving, reviewing and recording trip requests, bringing to the attention of the Coordinator/Supervisor any difficult or unusual trips including trips that might be refused, and c) assigns vehicles and drivers according to established procedures and issues trip manifest forms for all trips.Assists with the development and maintenance of stops and routes for regular and special education students by a) answering parent concerns about stops and routes, b) working with drivers concerning stops and route questions and modifications, and c) assuring that district operated routes are current and available for substitute drivers.Attends safety meetings, school meetings, discipline meetings, community meetings and other meetings as may be required.Maintains attendance requests for drivers and aides for daily coverage.Performs any other duties assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month position.
