Brown & Brown's Risk Solutions team, formerly known as Beecher Carlson, is looking for an Accountant & Captive Manager to join the Captive practice in Colchester, VT or Honolulu, HI.
The Accountant & Captive Manager will manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of captive insurance companies, with an opportunity to serve as focal contact person with senior management and our clients, developing strategic and consulting skills. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Provide advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments that affect clients.Give presentations at client, shareholder, and/or Board of Director meetings to review financial information. Prepare monthly financial statement package and management review for a group of captive clients, in accordance with GAAP, SAP, modified GAAP and IFRS.Perform all accounting necessary for maintaining captive clients, including preparing all general ledgers, reconciliation and customized financial and managerial reports.Perform reviews of teammates monthly and quarterly work.Work with all service providers including but not limited to auditors, actuaries, tax authorities, regulators, investment professionals, and bankers; acting as client point person to organize and coordinate all matters to effectively manage the captive clients.Prepare regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC Blank Forms.Responsible for regulatory interfacing with each domicile - onshore and offshore, consisting of Vermont, Hawaii, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, Michigan, Georgia, Delaware, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Tennessee, and District of Columbia.Responsible or substantive audit review and compliance testing, involving drafting and reviewing of audit reports and obtaining clean audit opinions.Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports.Work with multiple accounting and reporting systems, including Acumatica, Velixo and Wings to prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP, SAP, modified GAAP and IFRS.Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality of information processed.Follow all company policies and procedures.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.1-5 years' experience in position with similar duties.Ability to use initiative and good judgment in accomplishing tasks with minimal errors/Must possess critical thinking skills.Establish and maintain effective work relationships and to function in a team environment.Excellent listening, interpersonal and customer service skills.Proficiency in use of personal computers, including data entry, word processing and spreadsheet applications. Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.Preferred:
CPA designationFluent in Japanese language (if in Hawaii)IFRS and statutory accounting expertiseCompensation & Perks:
