Brown & Brown's Risk Solutions team, formerly known as Beecher Carlson, is looking for a Senior Accountant & Captive Manager to join the Captive practice in Colchester, VT or Honolulu, HI.
The Senior Accountant & Captive Manager will manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of captive insurance companies, acting as focal contact person with senior management and our clients, developing strategic and consulting skills. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Provide advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments that affect clients.Give presentations at client, shareholder, and/or Board of Director meetings to review financial information. Prepare and/or review monthly financial statement package and management review for a group of captive clients, in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, SAP and modified GAAP.Perform all accounting necessary for maintaining captive clients, including preparing and/or reviewing all general ledgers, reconciliation and customized financial and managerial reports.Review financial reporting packages for captive insurance clients and ensure compliance with internal requirements and applicable accounting standards.Training, oversight and development of teammates.Take a significant role with projects such as captive formations, feasibility studies, proposal responses, the annual SOC1 audit, as well as the presentation of the results of these efforts to clients, regulators and others.Assist with sales and business development initiatives, at the direction of leadership.Establish and maintain good working client relationships.Participate in and/or lead internal and client meetings as requested by management.Work with all service providers including but not limited to auditors, actuaries, tax authorities, regulators, investment professionals, lawyers, TPAs and bankers; acting as client point person to organize and coordinate all matters to effectively manage the captive clients. Prepare and/or review regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC filings.Responsible for regulatory interfacing with each domicile - onshore and offshore, consisting of Vermont, Hawaii, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, Michigan, Georgia, Delaware, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Tennessee, the District of Columbia, and others.Responsible or substantive audit review and compliance testing, involving drafting and reviewing of audit reports.Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports. Work with multiple accounting systems, including Acumatica and Velixo to prepare financial statements in accordance appropriate accounting basis.Maintain open channels of communication with client service team members.Keep abreast of technical accounting and regulatory developments.Maintain applicable certifications such as CPA or ARM credentials.Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality of information processed.Follow all company policies and procedures.Other duties as assigned.Competencies:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.8-15 years' experience in position with similar duties.Ability to use initiative and good judgment in accomplishing tasks with minimal errors.Must possess critical thinking skills.Establish and maintain effective work relationships and to function in a team environment.Excellent listening, interpersonal and customer service skills.Proficiency in use of personal computers, including data entry, word processing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft Office applications).Preferred:
CPA designation.Fluent in Japanese language (if in Hawaii).IFRS and statutory accounting expertise.Physical Requirements Necessary on a Regular Basis:
Manual dexterity, arm and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse and telephone 7-8 hours per day.Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication 7-8 hours per day.Vision sufficient for use of a computer monitor.Ability to sit at a desk 7-8 hours per day.Pay Range$80,000 - $115,000 Annual
The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
