SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Business Services, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the daily operations, functions, and work direction of the staff of the Business Office including oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll and benefits administration. Duties of the job also include preparation and coordination of audits; account reconciliation; cash flow and revenue analysis; and assistance in budget development and monitoring activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMonitor and oversee accounting functions and activities to ensure all revenues and expenditures are reported in compliance with regulations, rules and guidelines (e.g. UFARS, state or federal rules and regulations).Maintain cash flow projection models used to determine district's cash borrowing needs, optimal investment schedules, and required fund transfers.Ensure the collection, proper deposit and accounting of District revenues and receipts and resolve discrepancies.Supervise and direct department personnel in the areas of accounting, purchasing, payroll, and benefits.Coordinate and control work methods, procedures and techniques employed by department personnel.Prepare monthly School Board reports.Verify and review documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.Responsible for reconciling and monitoring purchasing card receipts and statements.Assist with the annual budget process.Complete bank reconciliations and ensure necessary journal entries and adjustments are made to accounting records.Prepare year end entries and statements for the annual audit. Gather information as requested by auditors and department leaders.Train staff in the use of the Finance system and other online systems used for financial reporting.Perform special projects as assigned or other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Basic understanding and knowledge of:accounting, bookkeeping functions and District operations pertaining to the recording revenues and expenditures, student activity accounting, and other assigned accounting activities.the laws, rules, regulations and requirements pertaining to areas of accounting responsibility (e.g. UFARS).UFARS, GAAP accounting principles, guidelines and rules, GASB rules and guidelines.the fundamentals of general office and administrative procedures and internal control requirements.the use of office equipment and typical productivity software, databases or customized systems/applications used within the District for accounting (i.e. Google, Microsoft Office, etc.).basic record retention, record/file/database maintenance requirements.data privacy requirements, provisions as it impacts the processing of accounting and financial records.Oral and written communication skills.Skilled in interpreting and applying regulations, rules, guidelines and standards impacting department operations and activities.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, department heads, officials, and representatives outside of the district.Customer service and human relation skills in assisting, dealing with and applying proper phone etiquette and informational assistance in dealing with employees, agencies, the public and department staff.Performing work assignments requiring attention to detail, precision and accuracy and in accordance with set deadlines.Performing assigned functions with minimal direction in accordance with established and set departmental operations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
