Intern, Planning

This position is a temporary, full-time summer internship working 40 hours a week (estimated dates May 2025 - August 2025).

Position Highlights:

As a Planning Intern, you will enhance your planning knowledge by helping strengthen communities throughout the state. You will work side by side with our professional planning staff, work on interesting projects, attend client meetings, and participate in public engagement activities.

Position Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be part of a world-class Community Planning team, bringing high-quality plans and designs to life for our amazing clients. This position will expose you to most aspects of urban planning including tasks to support public projects including comprehensive plans, land use plans, and area plans and writing and researching zoning and development codes. Your excellent communication skills will be put to good use, as you will be coordinating and collaborating with a variety of professionals.

Position Qualifications:Enrolled in and completed at minimum sophomore year of a Bachelor of Science or Master's degree program in Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Geography or related field.Basic knowledge of and interest in development design and land use issues and regulations.Basic experience using Microsoft Office suite of products and ArcGIS. Experience with Adobe (InDesign) is a plus.Belief that Trust, Humility, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, and Discipline are important values to embrace and live out.Commitment to diversity of thought, contributing new ideas and perspectives while also respecting different points of view.Legal authorization to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for an employment-based visa.Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to work in a professional, climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels and consistent exposure to light, both natural and artificial. Workstations are in an open space layout with frequent collaboration and interactions from co-workers throughout the day. Within the office, you are willing and able to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Additional requirements include providing on-site technical assistance by occasionally accessing client or construction sites with varying terrain.

Our Community Planning Group provides services such as the development of comprehensive and small area plans, urban design plans, GIS mapping, scenario planning, and land use ordinances.
