We are looking for an inspired, detail-oriented Planning / GIS Technician to assist with planning efforts in the across the Carolinas. You will be challenged with a diverse portfolio of projects that bring Stewart's industry-leading planning efforts to municipalities and counties. Because of the diverse portfolio, you will gain a broad spectrum of experience in planning at all scales. You will be encouraged to think creatively and develop innovative project deliverables, especially in designing, configuring, and managing GIS data and associated mapping. This position requires someone who is technical, self-directed, and curious about ways to serve, lead and strengthen communities. We work at 10hr, 4-day work week Monday - Thursday.Position Responsibilities:In this position, you will be working with a collaborative team of engineers and planners to deliver projects such as Comprehensive Plans and Development Ordinances. Essential functions of this position include the preparation of maps, configurable applications, data products, reports, and presentations in support of various GIS and technology projects.This job might be for you if you enjoy tasks such as:creating maps, reports, and presentations in support of various GIS and technology projects.creating, designing, and editing graphics and documentsworking and learning on an interdisciplinary planning team with diverse communities and projectsworking with others and engaging with the public to create context-sensitive solutionsresearching planning/land use related issues, gathering and analyzing datausing various GIS software (ArcGIS, ArcPro) for geographic analysis.
Position Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in City Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, GIS, Landscape Architecture or equivalentProfessional planning and GIS experience preferredGISP certification preferred but not requiredBeginning knowledge of or interest in Adobe products (including InDesign and Illustrator) and willingness to learnExperience using ArcGIS and spatial mapping concepts and tools to support planning activitiesStrong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including knowledge of technical writing techniquesDemonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while remaining detail-oriented.Willingness to participate in night meetings and travel, as requiredValid driver's license preferredBelief that Trust, Humility, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, and Discipline are important values to embrace and live out.Commitment to diversity of thought, contributing new ideas and perspectives while also respecting different points of view.Legal authorization to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for an employment-based visa.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:You are willing and able to work in a professional, climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels and exposure to lots of light, both natural and artificial. Workstations are in an open space layout with frequent collaboration and interactions from co-workers throughout the day. Within the office you are willing and able to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
