Job Description:
Hitachi STS USA, Inc.'s Pittsburgh, PA, office seeks a
Principal System Engineer . This is a hybrid position where the employee would be required to work in the Pittsburgh, PA, office three day(s) per week and can work remotely up to two days per week.
Accountabilities
The Principal System Engineer will provide overall system integration in and across multiple turnkey projects to meet the requirements imposed by the contracts for the tender and backlog projects.
Specific duties include:
(1) ensuring the management (i.e., identification, allocation, and traceability) and fulfillment of overall system requirements for the entire life cycle of the project (design, verification, validation, safety certification, operation and maintenance (O&M) and decommissioning) applying ISO/IEC 15288, ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148 and CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 international standards;
(2) guaranteeing the identification and management of the project interfaces among the internal and external systems according to the project scope of work;
(3) guaranteeing the proper and effective delivery of system architecture for Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) following IEEE 1474 standard for Central Control, Computer-based Interlocking, Wayside Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Onboard ATP and Automatic Train Operation (ATO), Fixed and Wireless Communications, CCTV and other functionalities, vehicle integration and central and wayside integration into legacy systems for brownfield operating systems;
(4) defining the Concept of Operations (CONOPS), operational scenarios to adapt the product and solution to the transit system final use by passengers and staff (operators and maintainers);
(5) ensuring the application across assigned turnkey (greenfield) and signaling integration (greenfield and brownfield) projects of standardized and optimized solutions to increase project efficiency and fulfil contract requirements; and
(6) ensuring an optimized System Integration Verification and Validation strategy for the entire project, including system integrations tests, are performed across projects optimizing methodologies, and sharing results.
This is a hybrid position where the employee would be required to work in the Pittsburgh, PA office three day(s) per week and can work remotely up to two days per week.
Required Skills/ Knowledge
Must have experience with:
(1) engineering lifecycles, HW/SW integration lifecycle, and delivering system solutions to closure;
(2) Microsoft Office suite, Scheduling Software (MS Project and Primavera), requirements management systems/tools (DOORS), and configuration management tools (TeamCenter, Rational Team Concert (RTC), or Rationale Change);
(3) managing medium-sized projects and project teams;
(4) leading, engaging, and managing tasking of cross-functional teams of varying skills/experience;
(5) multi-tasking across multiple projects;
(6) overall systems architecture design, for rail or transit; and
(7) Communication-based Train Control (CBTC), conventional signaling control designs; and
(8) applying and using international standards ISO/IEC 15288, CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 and IEEE 1474.
Education/Qualifications
(1) Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology plus
(2) 10 years of experience in a system engineering role in or for the rail industry required.
