ALSTOM Transport USA Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, has a Lead Software Engineer - VATC position responsible for serving as the technical leader for software projects and development efforts, driving software application continuous improvement initiatives, and providing technical leadership to the software engineering team. This is a Pittsburgh-based hybrid position offering the ability to work from home on Monday and Friday each week with in-office work required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week in the Pittsburgh, PA office. Specific duties include: (i) defining and implementing engineering vision (e.g., team profile and skills, discipline evolutions in terms of technology, department competitiveness, etc.); (ii) motivating, evaluating, training, and leading the engineering team and team resources; (iii) developing the growth of internal World Class Engineering (WCE) experts; (iv) providing technical leadership to the deployment of all engineering team processes, methods, and tools and driving continuous improvement of same for software development operations; (v) providing software domain and improvement roadmaps, such as cost structures and cost drivers, to the Reference Library Manager for inclusion in the Reference Library, when applicable; (vi) facilitating the collection and sharing of remote execution (REX) documentation related to software project/program execution; (vii) coordinating adequate software engineering staff for projects, bids, and programs including by reviewing workload forecasts and capacity and leveraging subcontracting capabilities, business strategies, and footprint objectives; (viii) providing software technical support to tender design reviews and documentation reviews in accordance with the tender strategy; and (ix) providing technical leadership with respect to project, program, and tender Quality Cost Delivery (QDC) related to engineering.
Must have a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in an engineering, computer science, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the railway, automotive, or aerospace industries.
Experience must include the following: (i) three (3) years working with CENELEC EN 50128, Railway Applications, software for Railway Control and Protection Systems, and agile practices for software development; (ii) one (1) year executing and managing engineering projects related to the development of safety critical automated train control software for people moving transit systems; (iii) one (1) year overseeing entire program lifecycle from requirements gathering through system commissioning; (iv) one (1) year proving costs estimates for projects, including by identifying gaps in the bid phase and providing hour estimations for the development and deployment of software; and (v) one (1) year of execution effort estimation.
Must also know (from any completed university-level coursework, seminars, workshops, or real-world, hands-on experience) the following: (i) C and Shell Scripting programming languages; (ii) Eclipse and Gitlab programming tools; (iii) DOORS and Hydra requirement and configuration management tools; (iv) Communication Based Train Control ("CBTC") railway signaling; and (v) CENELEC EN 50128 process.
Experience can be concurrent.
Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time within the United States and internationally.
