REPORTS TO : Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISES : Supervisor of Instructional Coaches & Curriculum Coordinators; Contributing evaluator for building principals
NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION : Facilitates the development, evaluation, organization and implementation of curricula, MTSS, educational programming, and assessments, PK-12 across all content areas. Oversees efforts to strengthen classroom instruction, intervention practices, induction and staff retention all with the aim of strengthening student achievement and equity.
Works collaboratively with the leadership team to nurture common understanding and practices in each of these areas, and communicates with the School Committee and community regarding these dimensions of the district's work.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 12 month contract, salary and benefits to be negotiated
QUALIFICATIONS :MA. educational leadership license: Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent; Principal/Assistant Principal or equivalentMaster's degree required; Doctorate or CAGS preferredMinimum of five years of successful teaching experience; five additional years of administrative experience strongly preferredDemonstrated professional and personal commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusionDemonstrated expertise in assessment of curriculum and instructional practices, including bringing a culturally proficient lens to these assessmentsStrong knowledge of evidence-based instructional practice; standards-based curriculum development; curriculum adoption processes; program evaluation; MTSS; child growth and development; effective supervision and evaluation; principles of adult development and professional learning; assessment toolsExpertise in gathering, utilizing and presenting quantitative, observational, survey and qualitative data as a basis for informed decision-making, including expertise in the use of student assessment data and samples of student work for instructional planningAbility to work unsupervised and to make decisions in the interests of students, staff and the long-term health of the school districtExpert facilitation skills including strong meeting planning and facilitation skills and strong professional learning facilitation skillsDemonstrated knowledge of educational laws and regulationsExceptional verbal and written communication skills, including active listening skills, the ability to motivate staff, and a demonstrated ability to participate effectively in and lead teamsAbility to effectively use multiple technologies for communication, job-embedded learning and teaching, data analysis and work efficiencyExceptional time management and organizational skillsJOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
Demonstrates commitment to the education of children through language, action, and decision-makingWorks with leaders and educators across district to initiate and direct programmatic and instructional improvement initiativesOversees district curriculum renewal cycle including the adoption of curricula; curriculum development; curriculum implementation processes; and curriculum evaluationManages the leadership's ongoing monitoring and implementation of instructional practices and improvement effortsOversees the adoption of assessments; assessment implementation; assessment data utilization by leaders and staff; and data reportingMonitors and evaluates the performance and progress of the district's educational programArticulates the district's mission and vision, curriculum implementation strategies to the community, and solicits its support in their execution. Makes public presentations at School Committee, staff meetings and community events as neededAt direction of Superintendent, oversees programmatic innovation and improvement initiatives as well as program monitoring and evaluationSupports use of evidence- and research-informed practice by leaders and staff across all areasManages a range of relationships with external organizations including DESE partners, professional development partners, and curriculum and software providersSupports Superintendent to facilitate strategic planningSupports Superintendent to facilitate effective collaborative decision-making by, and leadership of the District Leadership TeamCollaborates with Central Office and building leaders to develop and implement district budgetTakes lead responsibility for developing elements of the budget dedicated to curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional learning; approves district-level purchases of all curriculum and instructional materialsOversees planning for, implementation, and evaluation of a district professional development program that furthers the district's improvement goals; facilitates district Professional Development CommitteeApplies up-to-date knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations to ensure strong district programs, equity, and legal complianceSupports the implementation of strong supervision and evaluation, as well as strong instructional coaching processes in the districtAssists with recruitment, selection, and training of personnel; contributes to decision-making re: personnel placement, assignment, retention, discipline and dismissalSupervises and evaluates coaches and curriculum directors; in consultation with the Superintendent, may also serve as contributing evaluator for building leaders and/or other district staffListens to and communicates with leadership and staff on an ongoing basis to ensure both that leaders have a good understanding of the district and schools, and to ensure that faculty and staff have a good understanding of district leaders' initiativesOversees the district's homeschooling programMaintains current knowledge of effective instructional strategies and practices that support and enhance program effectivenessCollaborates with others to develop and submit entitlement and competitive grant proposals; manages grants as assigned by the SuperintendentFacilitates district's Wellness Committee and other committees as necessary; serves on committees as directedRepresents the district with tact and diplomacy; promotes good public relations through personal appearance, active listening, and respectful interactions with all constituentsPerforms any and all duties as assigned by the Superintendent
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds to visit classrooms, and attend meetings, and will regularly be required to sit for an hour or more at a time. An individual holding this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. At times, the person in this position will be required to personally receive, unpack and distribute texts and materials to staff or to recruit others to assist with those duties.
