The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Department of Ophthalmology
Director of Ocular Oncology Research
The UT Southwestern Department of Ophthalmology seeks a Director of Ocular Oncology Research, a new position created as a key component of our ambitious research expansion strategy. We seek an established and well-funded researcher in cancer genetics/genomics, tumor immunology, or related fields.
The successful candidate will work with the Department Chair, Dr. J. William Harbour, a leading authority on ocular oncology, to build a basic, translational, and clinical research program focused on ocular tumors, such as uveal melanoma, retinoblastoma, ocular lymphoma, and ocular surface neoplasia. They will benefit from the highly collaborative UTSW scientific community and state-of-art research core facilities, and will be encouraged to obtain a joint appointment in a basic science department and to become a member of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the nation’s top cancer centers.
While a familiarity with eye cancer is helpful, the most important considerations for this position are (1) a strong record of high-impact cancer research, (2) a track record of success in mentoring research trainees, (3) leadership experience, and (4) an interest in recruiting and developing research faculty to create an exceptional multidisciplinary ocular oncology program.
Significant endowment support and programmatic development funds are available for the qualified applicant.
Candidates should possess a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree. They may be full-time scientists or clinician-scientists. Those intending to engage in patient care must be eligible to obtain a Texas Medical License. Appointment and rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
