GENERAL DUTIES

Specimen Collection:

Performs venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with department SOP.Transcribes orders from outside providers as necessaryResponds to applicable code teams as neededAdherence to universal and special precautionsWorkload Management:

Adheres to SOP in the use of handheld devices for specimen collection .Monitors collection list and documents status of outstanding collectionsMonitors expected list for pending labsSpecimen Handling and Receipt:

Ensures that specimens are updated to received status and collection date/time and receipt date/time is accurateDelivers specimens to the appropriate Lab Section.Quality Assurance Related Duties:

Communicates complaints or problems to department supervisor.Collects data for quality assurance program as outlined by department SOP or instruction by department supervisor.Maintains thorough and accurate documentation.Assist with the investigation of event reportingAssist with follow up and staff education when quality metrics are not metAdministrative duties:

Monitors inventory levels and notifies the supervisor .Handles phone calls from patients or providersLead Duties:

Prepares schedules and makes daily work assignments for the Phlebotomy staff.Trains and instructs Phlebotomists and studentsMaintains staff competenciesWorks with Laboratory Leadership to implement, modify and manage policies and procedures.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Required: High school diploma or equivalent2 years of Phlebotomy experience in a clinic/hospital setting required.Previous supervisory experience and adult teaching experience preferred.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider American Heart AssociationRequired: Phlebotomist or Lab Assistant Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners licenseWORK SHIFT:
