Minimum:Maximum:Location:Chandler, ArizonaJob Type:Full timeJob Title:Paint ApprenticeJob Description:GENERAL PURPOSE:Under the general supervision, shop man performs skilled sign painting activities in the production and repair of signs of metal and other materials safely, efficiently and within budget.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Read job orders and inspect work pieces to determine work procedures and materials required.Prepares new signs, existing signs, sign cabinets, and sign lettering for paintingSelect and mix ingredients to prepare coating substances according to specifications, using paddles or mechanical mixersApply coatings, such as paint, faux finishes, to protect or decorate work piece surfaces, using spray guns, pens, or brushesMaintain production schedules and manage time to complete paint related tasksExamine finished surfaces of work pieces to verify conformance to specifications; then retouch any defective areasLoads and unloads signsClean and maintain work area to provide a safe and organized work environmentWork safely to prevent on the job injuries following all safety regulationsMARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Cleans and maintains equipmentDelivers signs to Installation crewPerforms other functions as necessary or as assignedNATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:Interacts with installation journeyman, apprentices and helpersInteracts with designersInteracts with other departmentsTRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.A High School Diploma or GED and two or more years of relevant experience involving demonstrated abilities in painting, including mixing and applying paints, reading blueprints and work orders; or any combination of training, education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.Knowledge involving mixing and spraying paints and color theory is requiredAbility to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple work activities to meet critical deadlines, as well as working independentlyAbility to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person on telephoneAbility to operate computer, telephone, and other office equipmentStrong math skills and the ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints and specificationsStrong work ethic with an enthusiastic, positive attitude, and the highest level of integrityMaintain regular and timely attendanceValid Driver's LicensePHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities include: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
