Further information about the Department can be found at www.engr.colostate.edu/me/.Position Summary The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to work in the Engineering Manufacturing Education Center (EMEC) with the EMEC Director and engineering students.The individual will help teach MECH 200B lab sections, instruct (as needed) the MECH 200A lecture sections, supervise Teaching Assistants, and will work with individual students and small groups to design, manufacture, and select manufacturing materials and processes.Duties also include establishing and maintaining manufacturing tools and facilities, manufacturing parts for lab support, supervising student hourly employees, and student safety.Required Job Qualifications BS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline;Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up;Experience operating and maintaining machine tools, hand tools, and general shop fabrication equipment with metals, plastics, wood, and composites;Experience working with engineering undergraduate students; andExcellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Job Qualifications Experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment;CNC certification or requisite experience for Level 3 CNC machining, experience and proficiency with Mastercam CNC programming software;Experience with Pro/Engineer (Creo), SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other solid modeling software; andExperience and understanding of: heat treatment of metals, finishing, adhesives, forming, metal casting, welding, composites lay-up, sheet metal fabrication, tooling, etc. Diversity Statement Reflecting departmental and institutional values, candidates are expected to have the ability to advance the Department's commitment to diversity and inclusion.Essential Duties Job Duty Category Instruct MECH Courses Duty/Responsibility Instruct (as needed) MECH 200A lecture sections; andTeach or observe up to 6 sections of MECH 200B: Introduction to Manufacturing Processes lab sections. Percentage Of Time 30% Job Duty Category Manage EMEC Lab Operations Duty/Responsibility Be confident and comfortable operating the machines and tooling in the EMEC;Establish and enforce safety protocols, ensure students know how to properly and safely operate equipment in the Engineering Manufacturing Education Center (EMEC);Create layouts of machinery and equipment;Clean and maintain equipment according to specifications;Order supplies and materials to maintain inventory; andManage operating funds within budget. Percentage Of Time 20% Job Duty Category Supervise Teaching Assistants Duty/Responsibility Train Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants on lab instruction, maintenance, and responsibilities; andManage and direct the daily tasks of the Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants EMEC staff. Percentage Of Time 10% Job Duty Category Mentor Students Duty/Responsibility Work with individual students and small groups to design for manufacture, select manufacturing materials and processes, and build products using the manufacturing tools and facilities;Enable students to achieve the objectives of the courses for which they are doing work (MECH 202, MECH 307, MECH 324, MECH 498, etc.);Contribute to a culture of open communication and respect and serve as a positive role model for students in the EMEC; andProfessional mentorship including resume review, consulting on vocational decisions, interview prep, and scholarship applications and recommendations. Assist students with identifying and applying to internships and full-time work; write letters of recommendation as appropriate.
