A Day in the Life

Medtronic is a world leader in providing health care products that restore health and extend life. The Medtronic Diabetes R&D team contributes directly to this mission; we deliver software and firmware for Medtronic’s pump and continuous glucose monitoring devices.

We are looking for a talented Principal Software Engineer to join our organization as we develop safety critical software for medical devices that hundreds of thousands of people around the world depend on daily. You will work with a world-class team to meet users’ needs by developing innovative solutions and bringing them to market and will directly contribute to Medtronic’s mission to Alleviate Pain, Restore Health, and Extend Life.

The embedded software engineering position will be member of our software organization. You will be working in fast-paced cross-functional teams to develop embedded software and algorithms for our glucose sensing therapies to maximize safety and minimize user burden. We’re looking for someone with knowledge in embedded software (proficiency in C, familiarity with RTOS and Embedded programming) to help us transform diabetes care around the world.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

Triage and characterization of the issues (e.g. identify the signature of a known issue, identify pattern for SW and HW of new issues, define impact and priorities)

Determines software design requirements & Prepares automation scripts and performs performance/characterization reports

Demonstrates ability to develop& debug safety-critical, fault-tolerant real-time software, and current embedded system technologies.

Experience developing systems using Bluetooth low-energy communication protocols.

Perform FW-level troubleshooting and manage the implementation of corrective actions and be the technical point of contact and Systemic Issue status

Performs software integration activities with hardware and other hardware systems Skilled in troubleshooting, investigating, and resolving hardware/software/system technical issues.

Works independently and provides design tradeoffs and solutions. Takes initiative to understand the role of the software in the system and make improvements to the requirements and software.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical or other related engineering field with 7+ years of experience

or an advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.

Nice to Have

Embedded systems development experience

Have knowledge of C, C++, Git, Jira, Python

Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy

Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Have an ownership & solution-oriented mindset.

Experience in medical software development process such as IEC 62304 or other regulated software development

Experience working with hardware and software integration tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.

Background in networking, systems engineering and/or aviation related system support also preferred

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$140,800.00 - $211,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
