Job Description
About the Role:
As the Financial Accounting Manager, you will help oversee the accounting, internal controls and internal reporting functions for The New York Times Shared Services Center. You will report to the Sr. Manager of Financial Accounting and work with several departments throughout finance, accounting, and tax, and internal and external auditors.
You will be in a hybrid position, which includes regular attendance to the Norfolk, VA office 3 days per week with the flexibility to work remotely for the remaining 2 days per week.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with others and manage staff to ensure accounting tasks (including month end close and account reconciliations) are performed.
Support FP&A (decision support) activities while ensuring segregation of responsibilities.
Work as a resource for the NYT finance staff and respond to inquiries promptly.
Help with managing compliance activities across accounting-related functions such as accounts payable, employee Travel and Entertainment and Tax related matters.
Query, mine, and report on data sets and use data analytics tools to validate and support recorded transactions.
Manage the proper accounting of revenue, and document accounting conclusions using technical guidance, including ASC606.
Review customer contracts and other transactions and ensure the proper accounting observing ASC606 or other relevant accounting standards.
Review and enforce efficient corporate procedures and resource use.
Monitor employee performance, provide constructive feedback to staff and develop employees.
Partner with several departments to gather financial and other relevant information needed for close activities and financial reporting.
Commitment to continuing education on current and latest GAAP/SEC issues that influence the digital media industry.
Ensure daily operational needs are met with accuracy.
Provide support to the Sr. Manager of Financial Accounting.
Manage special projects as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and CPA certification.
5+ years professional accounting experience.
5+ year of experience with technical accounting pronouncements and standards (GAAP, FASB).
2+ years of experience supervising accounting staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Excel for presentation, analytics, database and financial applications.
Experience with Workday Financials and Adaptive Insights.
The annual base pay range for this role is between $95,000 - $115,000
