Senior Employee Relations Specialist

WHAT WILL YOU DO:The Senior Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for leading the Employee Relations team to excellence, by establishing and developing trusted relationships with local Leadership, campus HR Officers, and other internal stakeholders. This position is critical for building initiatives to foster a positive employee relations environment that aligns with the mission and values of the University. This position reports to the Director of Employee Relations.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Ensure the employee relations strategy is implemented to accomplish unit goals and mission.Collaborate with university HR Officers and partner with management and employees to provide guidance and consultation including, but not limited to, disciplinary action, performance coaching/counseling, and policy interpretation and application.Help develop and interpret HR policy for HR and management.Assist with University-wide performance management and evaluation process.Conduct fact-finding investigations and recommend resolution for all employee relations matters.Conduct trainings for staff and managers around performance management and other employment related topics.Recognize patterns and anticipates employee-related issues; Develops, recommends, and initiates appropriate steps for resolution in accordance with policies and procedures.Provides support for projects and programs that contribute to the employee relations strategy and company culture.Develop policies, procedures based on specific needs or changing employment laws.Represent the university in unemployment compensation claims hearings.Lead staff grievance review process.

Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Requirements:Ability to be an objective and trusted advisor for different campus stakeholders.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.Ability to coach and train managers and employees in sensitive employee relations topics.
