SummaryPlans, administers and supervises human resources activities under the general supervision of the Plant Manager. Primary areas of responsibility include recruiting, supervision, labor relations, and employee relations.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesRecruits, interviews and hires salary and production employeesConducts new hire orientationsAdministers the collective agreement with the union, handles grievances and labor relations mattersPrepares for and participates in collective bargaining.Administers local policiesProvides direction for interpretation and application of company policies and proceduresPromotes positive employee relations by advising and making decisions that are fair, consistent, and compliantAddresses employee complaintsAdministers disciplinary actions as necessary and advised operations on discipline.Responds as needed to outside agencies or attorneys regarding employment mattersResponds to unemployment claims and represents the company at related hearingUtilizes HRIS to compute and report HR metrics, and provides other management reports as needed (headcount, KPI, etc.)Coordinates annual salary planning process for locationProvides quantitative information to Plant Controller for budgeting/forecasting labor expensesMonitor and follow-up on training and development via Training Log and Training MatricesManage new hourly employee benefit enrollmentsManage the process for STD and FMLA leave and Workers Compensation claimsDirectly supervises HR Supervisor, HR Coordinator, and HR Specialist.Oversee plant social activities, meetings and conferencesEducation / ExperienceBachelor's degree (B. A.) in Human Resources Management or related field from an accredited college or universityMinimum of seven years of experience in a manufacturing human resources management role; minimum of five years of experience in a unionized settingProficient in all Federal and State / Provincial employment and local Worker's Compensation lawsOutstanding verbal and written communication skillsPrevious supervisory experience requiredHuman Resources Certification preferred (PHR / SHRM)Language AbilityAbility to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulationsAbility to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manualsAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers (internal and external), and the general publicMath AbilityAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, and statistical inference.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situationsReasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and implement permanent corrective actionsAbility to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variablesComputer SkillsWord processing, Spreadsheets, Internet, E-mail, HRIS software, MS Office Software
