The Middleton Police Department is recruiting intelligent, open-minded, and adaptable individuals to do important and challenging work as Part-Time 9-1-1 Dispatchers on our team. Police Dispatchers at the City of Middleton Police Department perform the critical and required work of connecting the needs and emergencies of citizens with the Police officers and first responders who support and protect the community. Dispatchers are key, non-sworn, civilian professionals working as a part of the public safety team. Successful applicants for this position are dedicated to the service and wellbeing of the community and it's citizens, able to work under at times stressful conditions while remaining articulate in verbal and written communication, and able to work in a fast paced environment.
Working under the general supervision of the Communications Supervisor, Dispatchers are responsible for the operation of the Police Communications Center. It is their duty to properly receive a wide variety of incoming communications and record information held for future reference or referred for immediate action. They effectively coordinate routine and emergency operations. Dispatchers provide as much direct service to callers as possible and appropriate to relieve police officers' routine tasks, non-essential calls, and other distractions. Dispatchers also perform substantial administrative processing of computerized records and data.
The Middleton Police Department Communications Center is a 24/7 and 365 day a year operation. The work schedule for part - time Dispatchers is a casual/on-call typeschedule. Some overtime is required, with the amount varying based on staffing levels. Shift work is required, including nights, weekends and holidays. Standard shifts are 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm and 11pm to 7am. Part-time Dispatcher schedules follow the same shift schedule but may vary widely in the number of hours worked, and the actual frequency in which those hours are worked.
Dispatchers must be US Citizens by the time of appointment and have no previous Felony convictions.

Receive incoming information or requests for assistance transmitted in person, via a multi-line telephone system, radio, teletype, TDD, or computer; determine the nature of such information or requests and either respond directly or refer to other personnel for action.Follow proper procedures in the operation of communications center equipment.Act as receptionist for citizens who come to the police department for assistance, information or other business.Monitor alarms.Receive and dispatch police, EMS, and fire calls.Maintain current listing of local information pertinent to the operation of the department such as stolen articles, wanted persons and found property; maintain up to date listings of emergency and frequently called telephone numbers.Provide general information to citizens.Receive 9-1-1 calls via landline, wireless, VOIP, and text.Maintain consistent, reliable work attendance and timeliness.Marginal FunctionsPerform other tasks as may be designated by the Chief of Police.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
