The Engineering Manager for Commercial Thermal Systems Design (TSD) - Technology Demonstrators is responsible for activities pertaining to TSD design and development of assigned engine technology demonstrators and related rigs supporting GE's next-generation of advanced commercial engines. This role reports to the Section Leader for Systems Design Technologies.

Commercial TSD – The Engineering Manager will have responsibility for:
All US commercial TSD work supporting assigned demonstrator engines
This team will work hand-in-hand with the systems, mechanical design, and other adjacent disciplines to execute rigs and demonstrator technology maturation plans.
Working with adjacent TSD technology-focused teams to develop integrated TSD tech mat programs supporting the demonstrators
Working with supporting global teams to accomplish all TSD-related design, analysis, test, and integration work necessary to complete TSD tech mat efforts.
Working with adjacent TSD program focals to understand the overall business needs and, when needed, work together to flex people and resources amongst various programs to meet immediate business needs when appropriate
Building a focused and high-performing TSD team able to efficiently and effectively lead the overall TSD portion of the tech mat efforts.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include thermal systems design engineering for all products, with emphasis on technology demonstrators.
• Manage a medium-sized team of professionals ranging from early career to senior professionals to achieve section objectives. Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of subsection resources, schedule, and budget planning.
• Interpret simple internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stay informed of industry trends that may inform work.
• Use high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
• May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.
Additional responsibilities:
Provide leadership and technical direction for assigned program tasks and personnel
Provide support, council, and recommendations to section management
Establish work group goals within framework of section technical and financial objectives
Communicate with management on technical, organizational, resource and personnel issues
Conduct performance appraisals and participate in salary planning
Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching and counseling
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years of experience in thermal systems design (TSD) or related disciplines.
Minimum 1 year of direct report / leadership experience
Desired Characteristics:
At least 5 years of experience in Thermal Systems Design (TSD) roles.
Strong technical background in heat transfer and fluid flow principles with hand calculations and ability to apply physical principles to more complex engineering modeling
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
Must be a collaborative, cooperative, humble, candid, and transparent leader.
