Schedule to vary between weekdays and weekends, available between mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a seasonal lead to run our shifts on deck. We are looking for someone with lifeguarding experience that has an eye for safety and understands quality lesson programming. The position requires creating a safe, positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies, practices and procedures. We expect our leads to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas and provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in a culturally sensitive way for swimming classes/programs. At times the position will require leading aquatic activities and/or private lessons, providing excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment. Provide direction for the program and staff. We also look for support in creating staff schedules and providing department administrative support as needed.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:Assist in onboarding new staffCreate staff schedules and department administrative supportMaintain constant surveillance of the pool areaKnow, review, and follow all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, complete related reports as requiredDevelop and maintain positive effective relationships with our diverse members, participants and other staffKnow, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool/aquatic areaMaintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department codePerform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as neededCheck the pool for hazardous conditions when arrivingPerform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate actionOther duties as assignedY Culture:

Requirements

Qualifications:

Minimum age 18Must demonstrate lifeguard and swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standardsAt least one year teaching learn-to-swim lessonsCurrent First Aid, CPRPRO (BLS), AED and O2 certificationsCurrent YMCA Lifeguard or RLSS, CRC, ARC LifeguardYMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalentAbility to pass lifeguard water testMust be able to remain alertMust be able to sit or stand for extended periodsAdequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signalsAbility to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear visionAbility to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescueAbility to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situationsAbility to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniquesAbility to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child (50 pounds)Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readinessBasic computer knowledge and skillsFluency in second language desired
