Position SummaryThis position will report to the Ice Rink Director.
The Lead Ice Rink Supervisor will also supervise other non-supervisory part-time staff.
This role will pay an hourly wage of $20
Benefits for PT roles: 401(k) savings plan and 401(k) matching. Also, OVG provides part-time, seasonal, and internship employees with one hour of accrued paid leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year.

About the VenueThis position is based at our
Mullins Center . The William D. Mullins Memorial Center, also known as the Mullins Center, is a 9,493-seat multi-purpose arena (10,500 for 360 concerts), located on the campus of the University of Massachusetts, in Amherst, Massachusetts. The Mullins Center is the home of UMass Minutemen men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's ice hockey. In addition, the venue hosts numerous concerts, family shows, theater shows, and commencements annually. Located adjacent to the Mullins Center is the Mullins Community Ice Rink, which is open for public skating and racquetball, while also serving as the home rink for the UMass women's ice hockey team. Responsibilities
Takes confident leadership of other part-time staff. Is assertive and communicates clearly and effectively to ensure others proper performance of their duties in a safe working environment. Continuously provides rigorous supervision and corrective direction of other staff during shifts: skate guards, skate room attendants, receptionists, and janitorial staff. Will report any insubordination, negligence, accident/mishaps promptly to Ice Rink Director.
Under the guidance and direction of the Ice Rink Director, supervises, provides training, gives corrective action for all other part-time Operations and Ice Crew working UMass Hockey games.
Responsible for maintaining the highest level of ice quality possible in the Community Ice Rink and Mullins Center Arena as required by the event schedule and facility guidelines, overseeing all aspects ice maintenance and ice making equipment in the Mullins Center Community Ice Rink and Mullins Center Arena. Understands and helps oversee all day-to-day operations to operate and maintain a SAFE working environment with a high standard of care and customer service.
Understands OSHA regulations and exhibits basic safety knowledge.
Perform and execute ice maintenance using advanced knowledge and techniques learned within the field.
Perform full janitorial duties in the absence of Rink Janitor (when Janitor has days off). Can expect 8-12 hours a week in cleaning.
Perform regular daily/weekly/monthly/annual Zamboni and Edger maintenance, including, but not limited to: Weekly blades changes, Greasing, Tire Pressure Checks, Engine oil changes, Tire changes, Cleaning, etc.
Coordinates a Zamboni Driver training program and completes driver testing.
Give a daily status report and feedback to Ice Rink Director during their shift.
Works 30 hours a week or more during peak season but remain part-time, averaging under 30 hours a week for the year. Works weekend shifts as assigned by the Ice Rink Director. Is able and willing to cover Zamboni driver shifts on an emergency basis.
Learn and demonstrate knowledge in all building related materials, equipment, and procedures. Pro-actively attempts in-house repairs safely and maintains the building and it’s equipment to the extent of their knowledge.
Summary of duties and Responsibilities (continued):
Maintain professional logs and documentation of all performed ice and equipment maintenance. Keep inventory of regular wear/ regular use items like: Zam blades, edger blades, engine oil, edger gas, and propane. Assist with purchasing and acquiring as requested by the Ice rink Director. Provide daily updates to the Ice Rink Director
Assist with emergency repairs to ice rink equipment to ensure the success of all scheduled events.
Covers all other duties as assigned by the Ice rink Director.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: 2 years Ice Rink and Ice Maintenance related work
Have a high school diploma, GED, or related trade school training; valid driver’s license; and interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with other staff.
Be pro-active, reliable, honest, dependable, and punctual.
Knowledge of general tools necessary to perform ice maintenance and ice rink repairs.
Be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Willing to work a flexible schedule, work extra hours as needed; and work in varying weather conditions.
Certified Ice Technicians through the US Ice Rink Association are preferred.
Experienced ice resurfacer operator required.
