Miami University seeks a collaborative, driven, and efficient Costume Shop Manager to lead the costume shop operations for the Department of Theatre. This role ensures the successful realization of artistic costume designs into clothing for productions.

This is a 10-month, salaried position (August 1-May 31 annually).

The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in theatre that is highly customizable and allows students to design pathways within a particular area of expertise or broadly across areas. It also offers minors in Theatre, Music Theatre, and Dance. The programs in theatre and dance are experiencing a period of growth, and currently include approximately two hundred majors and minors served by the department's 14 full-time faculty and staff.

The department also serves several hundred non-majors through coursework and thousands of audience members annually. Five productions typically comprise our season, including plays, musicals, dance concerts, and theatre productions for youth. The seasons is selected collaboratively by faculty, staff, and students.

Duties of the Costume Shop Manager to include:

Organizing and guiding the construction of costumes for the department, including oversight of shop safety (30%);

Teaching, serving as costume designer, and/or advising student costume designers (combination is equivalent to 3 credits per semester) (20%);

Developing costume budgets, purchasing materials and shop supplies, and reconciling purchase card (15%);

Maintaining, organizing, and overseeing use of resources (costume inventory, equipment, and facilities) (15%);

Supervising costume and makeup production practica -- including maintaining syllabi, records, and grading (10%);

Hiring, training, supervising, and overseeing payroll for costume shop staff (5%);

Serving on departmental committees and/or providing other service to the department (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate degree in? theatre, fashion, textiles, or a closely related field and relevant experience in a professional theatre, film, television, or other entertainment industry costume shop as a stitcher, draper, or supervisor.

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5+ years relevant experience in a professional theatre, film, television, or other entertainment industry costume shop as a stitcher, draper, or supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Skill as a stitcher and cutter.

Knowledge of pattern drafting and tailoring.

Consideration may be given to candidates with:

Graduate degree in theatre, fashion, textiles, or a closely related field.

Experience as a professional or academic theatre costume shop manager or similar.

Experience as a professional theatre costume designer.

Experience teaching courses at the university level.
