We are seeking a JHU CRU Outpatient Research Nurse who will report directly to the CRU Nurse Manager. The Research Nurse provides skilled nursing support for outpatient clinical procedures in keeping with approved study protocols, clinic policies, and good clinical practice (GCP). The Research Nurse also conducts DXA scans. This position also assists in the oversight of the outpatient clinic, in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
The JHU CRU Outpatient Clinic sees nearly 3000 outpatient visits on approximately 150 different research protocols each year. The JHU Outpatient Research Nurse participates in approved research protocols that utilize the outpatient CRU and must be conversant with each of the study protocols.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Implement standards of Good Clinical Practices in the care of research subjects.
Provide Study-protocol-directed, evidence-based care based on the nursing process, policies, procedures, and protocols of at the Johns Hopkins University and Hospital.
Insert IVs, monitor infusions, give medications, conduct patient interviews, draw and process blood samples, obtain vital signs, conduct other procedures within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act as needed and as directed by specific protocols.
QA/inspection of clinic equipment.
Conduct DXA scans. Complete study-specific training for DXA protocols.
Attend unit meetings and start-up meetings with the study team before protocol activation.
Work collaboratively with faculty investigators, research nurses, study, coordinators, and other members of the study team to ensure the highest quality, most ethical clinical research study.
Assist the Nurse Manager in mentoring and managing other clinic personnel to promote quality, safety, and excellence in care.
Enforce all unit, lab, safety, and bedside testing policies for the unit consistent with JHH/JHU policies and procedures and adhere to all HIPAA requirements.
Work under the direction of the Nurse Manager to ensure the successful completion of each clinical research study and to perform other duties as assigned.

Proficiency in phlebotomy and IV insertions.
Should have a working knowledge of federal regulation pertaining to clinical trials, research (FDA), OHRP), and good clinical research practices and principles (GCP).
Must adhere to policies related to protecting and reporting of sensitive and confidential patient information.
Must understand the importance and impact of data integrity in terms of patients, study results, costs, quality of service, and scientific research in general.
Requires regular contact with research participants, Physicians, and other health care personnel.
Requires the use of good judgement, tact, and sensitivity.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications
Must be willing to obtain and maintain ISCD DXA technician certification.
Physical Requirements
Sitting in abnormal seated position for extended periods of time.
Ability to remain standing and/or move about on feet for most of the workday.
Reaching by extending hand(s) or (arms) in any direction.
Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
Ability to left at least 35 pounds.
Communication skills using the spoken word.
Ability to see within normal parameters.
Ability to hear within normal range.
Ability to move about.
Minimum Qualifications
Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.
Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required.
Must maintain current licensure and certification during the duration of employment.
Acceptable completion of the JHH credential process is require within two weeks of start date.
Preferred Qualifications
One year experience in clinical trials/medical research. Experience in clinical research in an academic, government, or pharmaceutical industry environment.

Starting Salary Range: $64,000 - $112,200 Annually ($85,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
