Torrance Community Services Department Ranger Unit !The Department
The mission of the
Community Services Department
is to enrich the community through the provision of recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities for persons of all abilities. The
Community Services Department
takes pride in “ Enriching the Community through People, Programs, and Partnerships ”.
The Department is a diverse organization which consists of five Divisions that work collaboratively to meet the vision, mission, and goals of the department: Administrative Services, Cultural Services, Library Services, Parks Services, and Recreation Services.The PositionThe City of Torrance seeks a skilled candidate with office experience, strong customer service, and leadership skills to assist with the office operations at the Wilson Park Ranger Office (formerly Animal Control). Under direction, this position assists the Ranger administrative office and does related work as required. Responds to requests for information and services; directs customers to appropriate City operations; responds to phone calls, screens inquiries, takes messages and responds to questions; and performs related work as required.
The

position is part-time, non-civil service/at-will and supports the Community Services Department Ranger Unit in delivering programs and events
Hours:
Expected hours: 30 per week, Monday to Friday.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:Graduation from High School or equivalent and one year of recent part-time work experience directly related to recreation or community programs and services; and six months of experience involving public contact or public relations.Successful candidates will possess the following:Ability to work independently and manage high volume of service requests from distraught or agitated citizens.Work in the vicinity of domestic animals as needed.Communicate effectively orally and in writing.Exercise judgment and tact in dealing with the public in difficult situations.Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with an attention to detail.Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, ability to learn software and basic computer skills.
