Job SummaryStrain and enzyme engineering plays a pivotal role in transforming the chemical industry from petroleum-based to bio-based. At IFF, we have a long history of developing cell factories that produce enzymes at scale for a wide range of applications, from low temperature dish and wash detergents to more sustainable animal nutrition. Now we are overhauling our workflows to streamline them for an end-to-end data-driven R&D processes. We are seeking a passionate Life Science Data Engineer to accelerate our efforts. We are committed to providing sustainable solutions on an industrial scale, continually evolving and innovating to offer competitive, high-end products to our international customers.Position Description:We are seeking an experienced data engineer to operate at the intersection of application development, lab automation and molecular biology. As part of our team, you will play a critical role in enabling the digital transformation of scientific experiments and processes. Your responsibilities will include efficient and structured data capture, transformation, data access, visualization, and deployment of predictive Machine Learning and generative AI models.The position will be part of the Data Analytics group within Research and Development and be based at our Palo Alto, CA site. You will collaborate with Biotech scientists and fellow Data Analytics team members to deliver innovative solutions that will transform our Biotechnology research. Additionally, you will be a key member of our central Digital Engineering team, supporting data management and application development across IFF R&D.ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement software solutions for structured data acquisition during high-throughput screening.Develop database architecture, automated data pipelines, and create insightful visualizations.Handle web application development, deployment, and administration.Prototype innovative technical solutions to enhance the efficiency of IFF R&D.Required Qualifications:M.S. in Science, Engineering, or Mathematics with 3+ years of experience (B.S. 6+ years)Demonstrated experience delivering end-to-end digital solutions.Proficient in data science programming languages (Python, R).Proficient in SQL programming and database development.Familiarity with AWS cloud services (S3, Lambda, Glue).Proficient in application containerization and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).Familiar with version control methodologies (Git/Gitlab).Demonstrated ability to drive projects independently and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously.Experience with experimental science and a healthy curiosity to learn more.Strong teamwork, communication, and presentation skills.Bonus Qualifications:Data or Software Engineering role in Biology, Chemistry, or other Life Science industry.Life Science application experience (KNIME, Benchling).Web application development experience (Django, Flask, React).Proficient with visual analytic software (Power BI, Spotfire).Knowledge of Snowflake data engineering.We emphasize reaching goals through a collaborative effort.
