Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) a non-profit organization, was founded in 1934 by Dr. Henry L. Hilgartner and other civic-minded citizens of Austin to provide a setting where blind men and women could come to learn skills and create products that were sold door to door.
Today, Travis Association for the Blind stays true to the mission established in 1934 by providing opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind by creating, sustaining, and improving employment. The Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in advancing Austin Lighthouse's mission and goals by supporting donor communications, data collection, and community outreach. This critical position requires a blend of development experience, communications and social media savvy and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
This position will report to the Director of Development. This new role will establish the development function, create and lead growth of new funding sources for mission expansion.Responsibilities
● Support and promote Austin Lighthouse's mission and vision.

● Other duties as assigned.
Social Media Marketing:
● Co-create and implement engaging social media strategies to enhance our online presence.
● Schedule and manage social media posts using Later.com, ensuring consistent messaging and brand alignment.
● Analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies to optimize engagement and reach.
Content Creation:
● Write compelling content for email blasts, newsletters, and other communication materials to promote fundraising campaigns and events.
● Collaborate with team members to ensure messaging reflects our mission and resonates with our audience.
Donor Management:
● Track and manage donor information and donations using Bloomerang CRM.
● Generate reports and insights to inform fundraising strategies and initiatives.
Fundraising Support:
● Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and events, providing logistical and creative support.
● Collaborate with the development team to identify potential funding sources and create targeted outreach efforts.
Advocacy and Community Engagement:
● Advocate for the blind and visually impaired community through outreach and education efforts.
● Participate in community events and collaborate with local organizations to raise awareness and promote our services.
Grant Support:
● Proofread grant applications for accuracy and clarity.

● Ability to build a strategic vision and energetically lead execution.
● Ability to prioritize and manage projects efficiently and meet milestones, deadlines and KPIs.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
● Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute multi-faceted fundraising and awareness campaigns.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, donor management software, and social media platforms.
● Experience managing a team and collaborating with cross-functional departments.
● Strong ethics and discretion with confidential or sensitive information
● Able to read, comprehend and understand information and ideas presented in writing or in alternative forms.
● Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
● Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity.

Minimum Education and Experience
● Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, or a related field or equivalent experience.
● 2 years plus of proven track record of success in development and donor stewardship within the nonprofit sector
● Commitment to the mission and values of Austin Lighthouse, with a passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities.
Physical Requirements
With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:
● Prolonged periods of working on a computer
● Ability to be in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 4-8 hours
● Ability to lift/move up to 15 lbs. at times
● Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 10% of time
● Ability to network & attend functions during or after regular work hours
● Ability to work typical office hours including occasional evenings and weekends (events)
