Position Description:
The SETI Institute seeks an experienced Development & Events Manager to support our fundraising and outreach goals. Reporting to the Director of Development, the D&E Manager will work closely with development, communications, and executive teams, and other staff to plan and execute the broad-based fundraising program, plan and execute engaging in-person and virtual events, supporting both outreach and fundraising. This role will also include donor relations responsibilities, supervisory duties related to gift administration, donor stewardship, and engagement strategies. The position will provide guidance to and receive support from 2-3 remote staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
Event Planning and Management:
Develop, coordinate, and execute fundraising and outreach events, both in-person and virtual.
Manage event logistics, including budgeting, vendor relations, and on-site/virtual coordination.
Collaborate with teams to create multimedia assets and marketing strategies that promote event attendance and engagement.
Analyze event success and impact on fundraising, using insights to optimize future events.
Donor Acquisition and Fundraising:
Convert social media followers into engaged donors through targeted fundraising campaigns and events.
Work with the Director of Development on fundraising strategies to execute online and direct mail campaigns, social media initiatives, and more.
Guide gift administration support staff to provide excellent donor stewardship and relations.
Guide recurring donor programs, data analysis, and testing strategies to improve engagement and contributions.
Database Administration:
Utilize and provide guidance on Salesforce NPSP, Pardot, and event platforms for online fundraising, donor management, and event tracking.
Produce analytics reports to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and events.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience.
Strong event planning and project management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities; skilled in crafting inspiring, mission-driven content.
Proficiency in Salesforce NPSP, Pardot, or similar platforms; familiarity with marketing automation tools is a plus.
Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising best practices is highly desirable.
Flexibility to adapt in a fast-paced environment, with availability for occasional evenings and weekends for events.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience creating email and social media content using design templates.
Basic video content creation skills (editing support available).
Experience with social media advertising campaigns.
Salary and Benefits:Salary range: $75K–$93K. The SETI Institute offers competitive benefits, including health/dental/vision insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
Location:SETI Institute headquarters is located in Mountain View, CA. While a hybrid working environment is embraced by the Institute, this position will interact closely and often with numerous colleagues and teams at HQ, requiring physical presence at least 2 days/week.
