As the Vice President of State Government Affairs, you will lead advocacy efforts at the state and local levels in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi, ensuring that Windstream’s interests are effectively represented in legislative and regulatory matters. This role requires a strategic thinker who has, or can quickly develop, strong relationships with government officials, can navigate complex political landscapes and possesses the necessary presentation and oratory skills to advise the business on impacts of legislative and municipal actions. A deep understanding of the telecom industry is a “plus” for this position.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement strategies for state government affairs that are aligned with the company’s goals. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including state legislators, municipal and county officeholders, regulatory agencies, and industry associations.
- Develop plans and policies to build relationships and liaise with government entities at the state and local levels.
- Engage with government officials, agencies, and regulatory bodies to advocate for the company’s interests.
- Establish productive relations that support business objectives.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, compliance, and public relations, to ensure cohesive messaging and strategy.
- Monitor and analyze state legislation and regulatory developments impacting the telecom sector and the company, including advising the company on future implications.
- Advocate for policies that promote the company’s interests and enhance the telecommunications landscape.
- Assess potential impacts on the organization and recommend appropriate actions.
- Stay up-to-date and informed about regulatory changes and their implications.
- Prepare and present reports on legislative activities and their potential impact on the company to key leaders and senior management.
- Create communication materials to inform and support business leaders.
- Deliver messaging related to government affairs.
- Ensure consistent and effective communication across the organization.
- Collaborate with industry groups, trade associations, and organizations with complementary objectives.
- Work toward common goals and advocate for favorable policies.
- Represent the company’s interests in relevant forums.
Do You Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory affairs, preferably in the telecom industry.
- Proven track record of successful advocacy and relationship-building with government officials.
- Strong understanding of telecommunications regulations and industry trends.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
The starting compensation range for this job is $112,600 to $150,800.
