JOB SUMMARY

Join the City of West Hollywood as a Lifeguard! This is an excellent opportunity for those with a passion for swimming and recreation. No prior lifeguarding experience required; all training will be provided by the City! Availability to work a flexible schedule including opening and closing shifts, weekends, and holidays is essential.

In this role, you will be instrumental in teaching swim lessons, assisting with aquatics programs, and maintaining a safe and inviting pool environment. Your expertise in water safety, lifesaving techniques, and CPR/First Aid will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of all pool patrons.

Key Responsibilities:Lifeguard Duties:

Assist and supervise pool patrons, perform rescues and lifesaving interventions when necessary, and enforce water safety rules.Swim Instruction:

Teach swim lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels and provide water aerobics sessions.Program Assistance:

Support the coaching and assistance of various aquatics programs and events.Customer Service:

Provide excellent service to pool patrons, address inquiries, and handle registration and fee collection.Pool Maintenance:

Conduct basic pool maintenance tasks including water testing, facility cleaning, and general upkeep.Selection Process:

JOB SUMMARY:Performs lifeguard functions, including: assisting pool patrons, performing appropriate rescues and lifesaving skills, teaching swimming lessons, water aerobics, assisting in coaching of City swim team and triathlon team, collecting fees, providing customer service to pool patrons. Also performs basic pool maintenance duties, including: testing water, facility cleaning and related maintenance duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Serves as pool lifeguard and is responsible for the safety of patrons while using pool facilities; provides customer service to pool patrons, collects fees for pool usage and assists in aquatic program registration.Performs basic pool maintenance functions, including: testing water; monitoring chemistry balance; facility cleaning, adding pool chemicals as directed and related maintenance duties.Teaches swimming lessons and exercise classes; coaches swim and triathlon teams.Performs customer service functions; answers phones and provides information; receives fees and processes receipts and takes registration information; makes and distributes brochures.Performs facilities operations and maintenance functions, including: basic equipment maintenance; and vacuuming, dusting and cleaning restrooms, exercise rooms and other public areas.

Disseminates a variety of information to various agencies, divisions, or departments via telephone, email, mail or FAX.Orders supplies.May serve as backup for other positions within the department.Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience:

No prior experience is required.Familiarity with Aquatics programs and aquatics facilities, teamwork skills, customer service experience, proficient computer skills, and lifeguarding background/experience is desirable.

Must pass initial water skills assessment and swim proficiency test during the recruitment process.

NOTE:

The City of West Hollywood, Recreation Services Division will be providing the certification courses through the West Hollywood Aquatics Academy to qualified, passing candidates. Continued employment is based upon successfully completing the West Hollywood Aquatics Academy.

Working Conditions:

While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to extreme temperatures, the sun, dirt and/or dust.The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately loud.Working time requires irregular hours, various shifts, weekends, holidays and/or on-call status.

This position is a temporary position and not eligible to participate in any benefit programs of the City except those mandated by federal or state law.

Temporary employees will receive leave accruals based upon actual hours worked with eight (8) hours paid vacation for every 160 actual hours worked and one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 20 actual hours worked with a maximum sick leave accrual of 40 hours. Eight (8) hours paid holiday time will be granted to temporary employees who have 70 or more hours of paid time in the pay period in which the recognized City holiday occurs.

If an employee reaches 1,000 hours within a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th), they are then enrolled in PERS (Public Employees Retirement System).
