Position Summary:
Kemper is a publicly traded, multi-billion-dollar insurance and financial services company, and we are seeking a talented and motivated accounting professional to join our Financial Reporting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C, Life, Health) that has exposure to financial reporting under SEC, GAAP, ERISA and statutory accounting frameworks.
Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper's financial reporting.
Position Responsibilities:
Assisting in preparation of L&H and P&C Statutory-basis financial statements (Blue Books, Yellow Books)Prepare audited financial statements and address inquiries from internal and external auditorsPerforming research around emerging accounting guidance and unique operational transactionsManage submission of state filings to various insurance bureaus and departmentsReviewing the prepared work of Staff and Senior Accountants and providing meaningful feedbackDesigning, preparing and analyzing management reportsCreating and performing ad hoc queries and analysesPosition Qualifications:
5-8 years of experience in public accounting and/or corporate financial reportingBA/BS degree in Accounting or FinanceAccounting/reporting experience in the insurance industry is a strong plusCPA or CPA candidate, is a plusEffective writing skills and strong attention to detail requiredStrong analytical, organizational, and time management skillsProgressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutionsExcellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staffAbility to identify, analyze, and solve complex accounting issuesThe selected candidate will work a hybrid work schedule which will require weekly reporting to our Chicago office
