Position Summary:

The Director, Government and Industry Relations will lead efforts to integrate areas contributing to the company's strategy for government and industry relations, including Legal, Community Affairs and Philanthropy.

Position Responsibilities:

Partners with internal (Legal and Business Unit leadership) and external stakeholders to implement government affairs strategies aligned with business objectives and regulatory prioritiesResponsible for monitoring and analyzing pending legislation, public policy trends, emerging issues, and regulation that has a potential impact on Kemper in partnership with organizational subject matter expertsEngages with key legislative and regulatory stakeholders as well as trade associations and industry peers for outreach and advocacy efforts to represent and advance Kemper's business interests including scheduling/maintenance of meetings/calendar, preparing briefing documents, and drafting correspondencesProvides counsel to the business on government relations developments, trends and challenges and makes recommendations to the business as to opportunities to address such mattersCoordinates political contributions and ensures compliance with campaign finance laws; prepares political contribution reports for internal and external audiencesMaintains database of budget and spend related to the Industry and Government Affairs effortsWork with communications and digital teams to create and publish content for use on the company intranet site, social media platforms, and stakeholder meetings including but not limited to fact sheets, reports, FAQs, presentations, talking points and other support documentsPosition Qualifications:

Bachelors DegreeAt least 7 years' related experience working in a trade association or a government/industry relations capacity; experience in corporate grassroots programs is a plusPossess strong analytical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills, the ability to speak and write persuasively, authentically and with clarityStrong executive presence, ethical business judgment, and the ability to work independentlyAdvanced knowledge of legislative rules and procedures, legislative processes, politics, and government decision-making including understanding complex policy and legislative issues with a strong understanding of the insurance regulatory systemAbility to develop, organize, project manage and execute innovative strategies and solutions including through: lobbying, association engagement, third party advocacy, etc.Ability to deal effectively with high-profile stakeholders such as elected officials, executives and a variety of external constituencies; including ability to influence and navigate political landscape preferred.Sponsorship is not accepted for this opportunity.This is a hybrid role working out of our Chicago, IL office.
