The Deputy Director, Center for Healthcare Quality is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the center. The Deputy Director serves as a member of the CDPH Senior Leadership Team and directly supervises the five Career Executive Assignment staff responsible for Field Operations North Division; Field Operations South Division; Licensing and Certification Division; Internal Operations; and Public Policy & Prevention Division within the CHCQ. Also provides direct supervision for the Research Scientist Manager responsible for the Data and Analytics Division.

Telework Information

This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH's Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.

Business travel may be required , and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

The essential functions of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) are critical to the health and wellbeing of people and communities. CDPH's fundamental responsibilities are comprehensive in scope and include infectious disease control and prevention, food safety, environmental health, laboratory services, patient safety, emergency preparedness, chronic disease prevention and health promotion, family health, health equity and vital records and statistics.

The Center for Health Care Quality is comprised of six divisions: Field Operations North Division, Field Operations South Division, Licensing and Certification, Internal Operations, Public Policy & Prevention, and Data and Analytics Division. Responsibilities within the center include monitoring infection rates in hospitals and assisting with strategies to reduce or eliminate outbreaks, regulatory oversight of licensed health care facilities and health care professional and licensing and certifying more than 10,000 health care facilities and agencies in California.
