Senior Corporate Counsel, IP Litigation

Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) , you’ll be at the forefront of defending and advancing SIE’s innovative intellectual property. This role is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage high-stakes IP litigation from start to finish—conducting fact investigations, driving case strategy, overseeing discovery and motion practice, and navigating mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial or arbitration, all the way through appeal. Reporting to the Senior Director of IP Litigation & Enforcement, you’ll be joining a passionate and dynamic team of IP experts dedicated to protecting SIE’s groundbreaking patents, trademarks, and copyrights while mitigating risks in a rapidly evolving tech and gaming landscape.What You'll be DoingIP Litigation Management:Manage an active and varied caseload of IP litigation, appeals, and other adversarial proceedings. Matters expected to include a range of IP disputes, with a focus on patent litigation.Advise internal clients regarding potential and ongoing disputes and risk management.Connect and communicate with leadership and business partners regarding IP litigation risks and status of pre-litigation disputes and ongoing IP litigation matters.Evaluate, select, and supervise outside counsel; negotiate standard and alternative fee arrangements.Work with outside counsel to set strategy and lead IP litigation matters to budget.Assist with IP-related subpoena responses and other third-party requests for information.Collaborate closely with IP and business colleagues to develop strategies to mitigate potential IP related risks.Work with internal Engineering teams to understand the relevant technology and provide risk assessments.What We're Looking ForJD or LLM degree from top law school; CA bar membership preferred. At a minimum, the candidate must be qualified for and quickly acquire a Registered In-House Counsel status in California and the willingness to maintain that status during employment.Minimum of 12 years’ experience in intellectual property litigation, with a minimum of 4 years’ experience at a law firm.Proven track record of successfully managing complex patent litigation cases.In-depth knowledge of patent, trademark, and copyright law and familiarity with emerging trends and changes in the IP litigation landscape.Ability to work cross-functionally and internationally with multiple partners and to implement global strategies.Demonstrated experience as a solutions-oriented self-starter who provides practical advice in a manner that is understandable by non-lawyers.Willingness to roll up your sleeves and work on any matter, no matter how big or small.Ability to work independently and with cross-functional clients.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. –
