The Hartford has an opportunity for in-house REMOTE Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases across the central and southern venues of New Jersey in State and Federal courts. This position is ideal for an experienced attorney who is dedicated to the practice of law and committed to excellent customer service! We are looking for an Attorney with extensive experience with Premises Liability, Products Liability, and Commercial and Personal Automobile accidents. Knowledge of risk transfer through defense and indemnification contractual language is a plus.
The Senior Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. The ideal candidate is an Attorney with experience in analyzing complex legal and factual issues, conducting extensive, well-reasoned legal research, drafting briefs and motions, who can independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients at trials, mediations, arbitrations and while conducting depositions. The ideal candidate will effectively communicate information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims in a professional and timely manner. The ideal candidate will have trial experience and demonstrates the ability to independently manage cases from inception through trial.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze intricate substantive and procedural legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, mediations, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies with no or minimal supervision based on level of experience and expertise.
Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insureds.
Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel with professional diplomacy, discretion within the established office procedures.
Provide for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations, and/or alternative dispute resolutions.
Research, draft, file and argue substantive motions on behalf of clients.
Provide opinions to Managing Attorney, staff, clients, and claims customers.
Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environment.
Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and license to practice in New Jersey state and local federal courts.
Knowledge of New Jersey courts with available transportation.
Member in good standing of applicable New Jersey Bar Association.
Minimum of 10 years of legal experience. Experience with Premises Liability, Products Liability, and Commercial and Personal Automobile accidents.
Strong legal research and writing skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a must.
Strong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
Demonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigation.

CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $123,360 - $185,040.
