Job OverviewA law firm specializing in Trusts and Estates is seeking a dedicated attorney to join its team in Bethesda, MD. The ideal candidate will draft estate planning documents, handle probate filings, administer trusts, and maintain strong client relationships.
Duties
Draft estate planning documents such as wills, trust agreements, powers of attorney, advance medical directives, and deeds.
Prepare probate filings, including petitions for probate, inventories, accounts, inheritance tax returns, and petitions for assorted relief.
Correspond with clients, financial institutions, insurance companies, Register of Wills Offices, and government agencies.
Administer trusts by preparing accountings, tracking and paying trust expenses and distributions, and facilitating trust tax returns.
Maintain client relationships through frequent communication (email and telephone) and explain legal concepts clearly.
Keep clients informed of case status and updates.
Organize online and paper files, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
Update case and task status regularly using Asana or similar tools.
Attend, lead, or organize Continuing Legal Education (CLE) sessions, bar association events, and networking functions.
Prepare blog posts and assist in writing and researching articles related to Trusts and Estates.
Supervise and train paralegals and law clerks on relevant legal matters.
Actively participate in firm marketing and business development initiatives.
Demonstrate a growth mindset and a client-centric approach to problem-solving.
Requirements
JD from an accredited law school.
8+ years of experience in estate planning and trust administration.
Active membership in good standing with the Maryland and D.C. Bar (or ability to waiver in a plus).
Strong client relationship skills, including leading in-person client meetings.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to adapt communication style to meet diverse client needs.
Sound judgment, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases effectively.
Interest in advancing legal knowledge through CLEs and new challenges.
Team-oriented with a willingness to receive constructive feedback.
Skills
Proficiency in estate and tax concepts.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Comfortable with technology and legal software.
Proactive and able to initiate actions to resolve client issues promptly.
