The National Institute of Mental Health's

Office of Clinical Research

is seeking highly skilled candidates for three vacancies in the

Human Research Protection Branch (HRPB)

and the

Clinical Trials Operations Branch (CTOB)

. HRPB is responsible for the oversight of human research protection and data and safety monitoring at the NIMH. CTOB provides educational support, training, and consultations regarding clinical trial design, protocol development, and good clinical practice. You must meet at least one of the following basic Office of Personnel Management prescribed occupational series requirements (GS-0101, GS-0601).

You do not need to meet the requirements for both occupational series

. All education, unless completed outside of the U.S., must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the education was completed.

FOR THE GS-101 SERIES:

In order to qualify for this position in the GS-101 Social Science Series, you must:Have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the behavioral or social sciences, or related disciplines appropriate to this position; ORHave a combination of education and experience that provided knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; ORHave four years of appropriate experience demonstrating that you have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

FOR THE GS-601 SERIES:

In order to qualify for this position in the GS-601 General Medical and Healthcare Series, you must have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position.

Specialized Experience Requirements:

In addition to the above education requirement

, in order to qualify at the

GS-12 level , you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:Evaluating health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research proposals and studies to ensure safe and rigorous research.Summarizing and explaining health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research findings for various audiences (e.g., general public, scientists).Assisting with the development and implementation of programs, policies, or procedures to guide health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research.Collaborating with organizational stakeholders to develop/establish health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research plans.Evaluating health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research findings using qualitative (e.g., content analysis) and quantitative (e.g., regression) methods.

In addition to the above education requirement

, in order to qualify at the

GS-13 level , you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:Evaluating health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research proposals and studies to ensure safe and rigorous research.Summarizing and explaining health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research findings to various audiences (e.g., general public, scientists).Developing and/or implementing policies, programs, or procedures to guide health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research.Collaborating with senior-level leadership (e.g., chief scientist, directors) to develop plans for conducting health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research.Evaluating health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research findings using qualitative (e.g., content analysis) and quantitative (e.g., regression) methods.Designing and/or implementing strategies to improve the effectiveness (e.g., timeliness, goal accomplishment) of a health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research program.
